Esta iniciativa trasciende el ámbito religioso, posicionándose como un proyecto integrador que fusiona cultura, infraestructura, servicios, fe e identidad, impulsando el desarrollo económico local a través del turismo.
La ruta, resultado de una colaboración entre cuatro gobiernos regionales, 20 municipalidades, cinco autoridades eclesiásticas y gremios turísticos, abarca una extensa red de atractivos turísticos.
En Lambayeque, por ejemplo, se han definido 22 recursos turísticos distribuidos en cuatro circuitos que combinan patrimonio religioso, cultural y natural, incluyendo destinos emblemáticos como la Cruz de Motupe, el Bosque de Pómac y la playa de Pimentel.
Piura, el Callao y La Libertad también presentan rutas con características únicas y significativas.
Para asegurar el éxito de la iniciativa, se han implementado diversas acciones de mejora en infraestructura y promoción turística. Estas incluyen limpieza de calles, pintura de fachadas, mejoras en la electrificación y el mobiliario urbano, así como una campaña de promoción a través de Promperú.
Se han desarrollado paquetes turísticos en colaboración con operadores turísticos, asegurando una oferta organizada y planificada.
LA INVERSIÓN EN ESTE PROYECTO ES CONSIDERABLE
El Mincetur ha destinado S/ 40 millones a proyectos en Lambayeque, el Callao y Chiclayo, incluyendo la reciente inauguración de la obra de acondicionamiento turístico en Huaca Rajada–Sipán (Zaña), con una inversión inicial de S/ 7.6 millones y una segunda fase prevista de más de S/ 4 millones. Considerando las inversiones de los gobiernos regionales y locales, la inversión total supera los S/ 540 millones para esta primera fase, una cifra que evoca la inversión realizada durante la visita del Papa Juan Pablo II.
SEGURIDAD EN LA RUTA TURÍSTICA
La seguridad turística es un pilar fundamental de la ruta, con un compromiso firme para reforzar la protección de los visitantes en todo el país. La Ministra León enfatizó la importancia de esta iniciativa, resaltando la elección del Perú como lugar de ministerio por el Papa, y reconociendo que cualquier esfuerzo para honrar su legado siempre será insuficiente frente a su grandeza.
Finalmente, la Ministra León anunció la aprobación del nuevo Reglamento de Organización y Funciones (ROF) del Mincetur, actualizado después de 23 años. Este nuevo ROF incorpora áreas clave como la Dirección General de Inversiones en Turismo, una Oficina de Integridad y una Oficina de Articulación Intergubernamental y Prevención de Conflictos Sociales, reforzando la capacidad del Mincetur para impulsar el turismo como motor del desarrollo económico y social del Perú.

This initiative transcends the religious sphere, positioning itself as an integrative project that fuses culture, infrastructure, services, faith, and identity, boosting local economic development through tourism.
The route, the result of a collaboration between four regional governments, 20 municipalities, five church authorities, and tourism associations, encompasses an extensive network of tourist attractions.
In Lambayeque, for example, 22 tourist attractions have been defined, distributed across four circuits that combine religious, cultural, and natural heritage, including emblematic destinations such as the Cruz de Motupe, the Pómac Forest, and Pimentel Beach.
Piura, Callao, and La Libertad also offer routes with unique and significant characteristics.
To ensure the success of the initiative, various infrastructure improvement and tourism promotion initiatives have been implemented. These include street cleaning, facade painting, improvements to electricity and street furniture, as well as a promotional campaign through Promperú.
Tour packages have been developed in collaboration with tour operators, ensuring an organized and planned offering.
THE INVESTMENT IN THIS PROJECT IS CONSIDERABLE
The Ministry of Tourism (MINCETUR) has allocated S/ 40 million to projects in Lambayeque, Callao, and Chiclayo, including the recent inauguration of the tourism development project at Huaca Rajada-Sipán (Zaña), with an initial investment of S/ 7.6 million and a planned second phase of more than S/ 4 million. Considering investments from regional and local governments, the total investment exceeds S/ 540 million for this first phase, a figure reminiscent of the investment made during Pope John Paul II’s visit.
SECURITY ON THE TOURIST ROUTE
Tourist security is a fundamental pillar of the route, with a firm commitment to strengthen visitor protection throughout the country. Minister León emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting the Pope’s choice of Peru as a place of ministry and recognizing that any effort to honor his legacy will always fall short in the face of his greatness.
Finally, Minister León announced the approval of the new Regulations of Organization and Functions (ROF) of the Ministry of Tourism (MINCETUR), updated after 23 years. This new ROF incorporates key areas such as the General Directorate of Tourism Investments, an Integrity Office, and an Office of Intergovernmental Coordination and Prevention of Social Conflicts, strengthening MINCETUR’s capacity to promote tourism as a driver of Peru’s economic and social development.
