La ministra informó que esta visita fue organizada con el fin de posicionar al Perú como un destino atractivo para la realización de reuniones y eventos internacionales y mostrar ante las economías de APEC como se ha venido reestructurando la gestión turística en el Perú, tras la pandemia de la COVID-19.

“Nuestra finalidad es propiciar el contacto directo con las economías miembro de APEC en los asuntos de competencia del sector turismo, así como consolidar al país, a través del fortalecimiento comercial y de inversión con los miembros de la región Asia-Pacífico”, explicó.

Tras mencionar que los funcionarios y autoridades que visitaron Machupicchu quedaron maravillados con el Santuario, así como con el paisaje que observaron durante el recorrido. “Ha sido una magnífica oportunidad para poner a Perú en los ojos de las economías de APEC”, comentó.

La titular del Mincetur señaló que la recuperación del turismo va en camino, pues citó que, entre en el primer trimestre de este año, el Aeropuerto Internacional Velasco Astete del Cusco registró la llegada de 428 782 pasajeros, que significó un incremento de 76,2% (flujo adicional de 185 mil) respecto al primer trimestre del año pasado; además, dicha cifra superó en 3,9% los valores alcanzados durante enero-marzo del 2019.

En lo que respecta a la llegada de visitantes a sitios turísticos, como el Santuario Histórico de Machu Picchu informó que, entre enero y marzo del 2024, el Santuario recibió 120 780 visitantes, que significó un incremento de 67,0% (flujo adicional de 48 mil) respecto a los mismos meses del 2023.

El 70,8% del total de visitantes al Santuario Histórico de Machu Picchu fueron extranjeros y el 29,2% visitantes nacionales.

La ministra Galdo señaló que considerando que para el Gobierno Peruano ser sede de las reuniones de APEC, constituye una oportunidad importante hacia el desarrollo sostenible del sector turístico, esta visita permitirá colocar al Perú en vitrina, brindará la oportunidad de hacer contactos con países cooperantes y generará alianzas dirigidas a fortalecer el turismo.
