El mandatario participó en la ceremonia de honras fúnebres, realizada en la sede del Congreso, acompañado por la presidenta del Consejo de Ministros, Mirtha Vásquez, y los integrantes del Gabinete Ministerial. “Pido, en memoria de mi hermano Fernando, para que todos los poderes del Estado nos pongamos de acuerdo, para que no solo congresistas, sino también ministros, ya no estemos en zozobra, de repente dejamos esta tierra preocupados por lo que tenemos que hacer por la patria”, afirmó.

El jefe de Estado recordó que conoció al congresista Herrera en la “gesta justa por la educación” y, hasta hace poco, durante su gestión como parlamentario, por encargo de su pueblo. Dijo que siempre se comunicaba con el legislador y solía visitarlo en Palacio de Gobierno.

“Me decía compañero me siento impotente al no poder realizar los proyectos que mi pueblo me encarga, no puedo encaminar un proyecto para llevar adelante la voz de mi pueblo, para calmar o enfrentar los grandes problemas que tiene el país. En esta vida somos pasajeros, a veces vivimos equivocados enfrentándonos, confrontándonos”, aseveró.

Refiriéndose a la familia del parlamentario Herrera, el mandatario dijo que tienen todo su respaldo y que realizará las coordinaciones para el traslado de los restos del legislador a su tierra natal. “Quisiera decirle al país que Fernando se lleva ese cuerpo físico, hermano dejamos tu lucha, dejamos tu fuerza, tu coraje, el amor a tu patria, el amor a tu pueblo, no te vamos a defraudar. Si hay que dar la vida por un pueblo más justo, más soberano, más digno, estamos dispuestos a hacerlo”, apuntó.

Al finalizar su discurso, el presidente Pedro Castillo reiteró su mensaje de unidad en memoria del referido parlamentario. “Compañeros, maestros, pido, en nombre del compañero Fernando, que estemos más unidos; al Congreso también, que nos llame más la unidad en la práctica, para consolidar el país que necesita de sus hijos y sus autoridades”, expresó.

El jefe de Estado se trasladó desde Palacio de Gobierno hasta el Congreso caminando, acompañado de la titular del Consejo de Ministros, Mirtha Vásquez, y de los integrantes del Gabinete Ministerial. A su llegada al Parlamento, fue recibido por la titular de dicho poder del Estado, María del Carmen Alva, y de legisladores de la bancada de Perú Libre.
