Almagro, quien se encuentra en visita oficial en el Perú, fue recibido en la sede del Ejecutivo por el secretario general del Despacho Presidencial, Carlos Jaico.
La reunión con el jefe de Estado se realizó en la Sala de Embajadores participaron el canciller Oscar Maúrtua; el representante permanente del Perú ante la OEA, Harold Forsyth; y el representante de la OEA en el Perú, Miguel Ángel Trinidad. Concluido el encuentro, el mandatario despidió al secretario general de la OEA en las escalinatas de Palacio de Gobierno.
En un pronunciamiento ante la prensa, Almagro dijo que vio en Castillo Terrones el compromiso de ser el presidente de todos los peruanos, en trabajar con todas las fuerzas políticas que quieren aportar soluciones para el país y con un conocimiento de las dinámicas sociales, que serán importantes en términos productivos, económicos y sociales.
“Hemos visto un presidente con una determinación importantísima de combatir la corrupción, fundamentalmente durante su gestión; quiere que su gestión sea la más limpia posible y eso requiere de esfuerzos en la lucha contra la corrupción, investigación y justicia”, refirió, tras precisar que debe haber un monitoreo permanente de transparencia para que no haya ningún elemento de sombra sobre los funcionarios.
Sostuvo que conversó también con el mandatario sobre la Carta Democrática Interamericana de la OEA que el 2021 cumple 20 años y fue aprobada por el organismo regional en el Perú y por iniciativa del país.
“La Carta Democrática Interamericana es una constitución de las Américas, la carta nos da los principales elementos esenciales del funcionamiento democrático y los instrumentos para defender la democracia, definitivamente la carta de alguna manera ha sido hija del Perú”, subrayó.
Destacó, asimismo, que el próximo año el Perú será sede del 52° periodo de sesiones de la Asamblea General de la OEA, decisión que se aprobó por aclamación de las naciones que forman parte de este organismo hemisférico.
Almagro confió en que esta importante reunión sea un elemento dinamizador en la región, duramente golpeada por la pandemia, e indicó que lo que se haga para reactivar a los países tras la pandemia serán elementos claves para marca el futuro de las Américas.

In a statement to the press, Almagro said that he saw in Castillo Terrones the commitment to be the president of all Peruvians, to work with all the political forces that want to provide solutions for the country and with an understanding of the social dynamics, which will be important in productive, economic and social terms.
“We have seen a president with a very important determination to fight corruption, mainly during his tenure; he wants his management to be as clean as possible and that requires efforts in the fight against corruption, investigation and justice, “he said, after specifying that there must be permanent monitoring of transparency so that there is no shadow element over officials.
He maintained that he also spoke with the president about the Inter-American Democratic Charter of the OAS that 2021 turns 20 years old and was approved by the regional body in Peru and at the initiative of the country.
“The Inter-American Democratic Charter is a constitution of the Americas, the letter gives us the main essential elements of democratic functioning and the instruments to defend democracy, definitely the letter has in some way been the daughter of Peru,” he stressed.
He also stressed that next year Peru will host the 52nd session of the OAS General Assembly, a decision that was approved by acclamation of the nations that are part of this hemispheric body.
Almagro trusted that this important meeting will be a dynamic element in the region, hard hit by the pandemic, and indicated that what is done to reactivate the countries after the pandemic will be key elements in shaping the future of the Americas.
