Juan Manuel Carrasco Millones, participated in the ceremony for the reception of Block I of Talara and the restart of operations of PetroPerú S.A. in oil and gas production, in the Talara Basin, after 25 years.

The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, announced today the return of Petroperú to oil and gas production activities, after 25 years, with the restart of its operations in Block 1 of the Talara basin, in the Piura region .

“Today the hydrocarbon industry in our country is taking an important step for the benefit of all Peruvians. Until the 1990s, Petroperú had operational and technical capacity and was able to produce up to 187 thousand barrels per day, but the privatization actions that we all know paralyzed the development of the state company, to the detriment of the country, ”he said from Talara.

Block I currently produces around 540 barrels per day average (BPD) of oil, more than three million cubic feet of gas and 130 barrels per day of natural gas liquids. In addition, it has 99 wells drilled and requires an investment of 136 million dollars.

“Petroperú’s return to production activities will begin with the operation of Lot 1 and, in the coming months, it will continue with lots 192 and 64, both in the Loreto region, whose contracting processes are progressing,” he said.

The head of state stressed that, with the operation of these lots, part of the crude that the New Talara Refinery will require for the production of quality fuels will be secured, using state-of-the-art technology.

“In April of next year, the state company plans to start the safe and progressive start-up of this important complex that will be one of the most important and modern in America, which will allow the production, very close to this batch, 95 thousand barrels per day of gasoline, diesel and other fuels with low sulfur content ”, he stressed.

He highlighted that the operation of the New Talara Refinery will have a significant impact on the sale prices of the fuels that Petroperú will produce to supply the national market.

“Our purpose as a Government is to have a fully strengthened Petroperú, which contributes to the development of the country, remaining as up to now as a self-sustaining company, acting responsibly, with full economic, financial and administrative autonomy, without receiving funds from the State,” he said. .

In this sense, the president stressed that 2022 will be a year of great challenges for the state company, as it will reaffirm its successful return to oil production activities and will put into operation the New Talara Refinery, the most important energy project in the country .

“From the government, we reaffirm our commitment to continue promoting a fuel market with fair and affordable prices. With that objective, we recently launched the new policy of massification of natural gas so that this energy resource, which belongs to Peruvians, reaches all homes, ”he emphasized.

At another time, President Castillo thanked each of the Peruvians for the effort and courage with which they have faced the pandemic and the economic and social consequences of the crisis.

He affirmed that it is these momentous moments that put our response capacity, strength and unity to the test as a Peruvian people. “Thanks to this, today we are about to reach 80% of the target population vaccinated with two doses. Likewise, we have started the application of the third dose and, in January, we will immunize children between 5 and 11 years of age to guarantee the return to presence in schools ”, he remarked.

He pointed out that, in the same way, thanks to the efforts of all Peruvians this year we will achieve an economic growth of 13%, the largest expansion in Latin America. “I call on the powers and institutions of the State, the political and social forces, the private sector, the workers, to join forces in favor of the great national objectives. We may have differences, but we must never forget that what unites us is much more than what separates us, “he said.

Finally, he asserted that in 2022 the Government will do everything possible to protect the life, health and economy of the population, to bring the presence of the State to the last corners of the country, and to strengthen the institutionality and defend democracy.
