In order for children between the ages of 5 and 11 to have a fun, educational and safe experience when vaccinated against COVID-19, the Social Health Insurance – EsSalud launched the Vaccine Patrol campaign, where minors will be immunized in an appropriate environment and thus prevent them from being hospitalized.

The activity was presented the day before at the Playa Miller de Jesús María vaccination center, in which the little ones were able to enjoy characters such as Vacunin and the Vaccine Patrol, who in a fun way, sensitized parents and children to return to their second doses without fear.

Dr. Jorge Sérida, spokesman for EsSalud, reported that in this first week more than 20,000 children have been immunized in the 10 vaccination centers implemented. “EsSalud, through its Vaccine Patrol campaign, aims to immunize more than 3 million children between the ages of 5 and 11, which represents an important part of the national goal,” he specified.

He also pointed out that in Lima there are 10 centers specially equipped to immunize children and that they are located in the immunization centers of Parque Las Leyendas, Playa Miller, Aljovín, San Isidro Labrador, Surquillo, San Isidro, Estadio Monumental, Polideportivo San Borja, Real Philip and North Plaza.

EsSalud has also implemented the Vacunamóvil service for children, which is aimed at the insured child population that has a disability and cannot go to a vaccination center. To access this service, they must call 107 option 0 so that they can be programmed.

SAFE VACCINE
The executive president of EsSalud, Gino Dávila, pointed out that evidence around the world supports vaccination in minors and that according to Pfizer clinical trials, the vaccine is safe and effective for children and has 90.7% efficacy in prevention of the disease, in addition to the fact that no serious side effects have been detected.

Likewise, the head of EsSalud stressed that the vaccination of children is important because it reduces the risk of serious illness, has a positive effect on mental health, will facilitate the return to face-to-face classes with greater safety and will help stop the spread of variants.

According to statistics from the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), since the pandemic began, more than 57,000 minors have been detected with the new coronavirus and 670 have died in the country. The number of cases, however, could be higher, since many infants develop asymptomatic pictures.
