Dante Cersso, jefe de la referida unidad, precisó que en la tercera semana de enero se alcanzó el pico histórico de contagios en la que va de la pandemia, registrando más de 342 mil casos, cinco veces lo reportado en los picos semanales de la primera y segunda ola, que tuvieron 61 mil y 67 mil casos semanales, respectivamente.
Sostuvo que si bien para la cuarta semana de enero hubo una disminución de casos (de 342 mil pasó a 238 mil infectados), aún hay regiones donde los contagios continúan en aumento como son Ucayali (creció 27%), Amazonas (+20%), Moquegua (+15%), Madre de Dios (+15%), Apurímac (+13%) y Tumbes (+5%).
Señaló también que en el primer mes del año se reportaron 3,477 decesos por coronavirus, es decir, en cada día de enero fallecieron 112 personas a causa de la enfermedad.
Asimismo, el vocero de EsSalud mencionó que, durante la última semana a nivel nacional, en todos los subsistemas de salud, se viene registrando en promedio seis mil pacientes en camas de hospitalización diariamente, mientras que otras mil trecientas personas luchan por su vida en una cama UCI.
Dante Cersso resaltó la importancia de contar con el esquema completo de la vacuna contra el Covid-19, incluyendo la aplicación de la dosis de refuerzo (sobre todo pacientes que cuentan con comorbilidades) para estar más protegidos contra este virus y así reducir la probabilidad de llegar a una cama UCI.
