Tras dar la bienvenida a las delegaciones de deportistas de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, México, Portugal, Perú, Turquía y Uruguay, el mandatario les indicó que se encuentran en uno de los países con mayor diversidad del planeta, con una variedad de ecosistemas, una cultura ancestral y con costumbres que definen la esencia del país.

“Los recibimos con los brazos abiertos, estamos orgullosos de ser los organizadores de la Tercera Copa del Mundo de Futsal Down, un certamen que permitirá a todos los jóvenes deportistas mostrar lo mejor de su talento y destreza”, anotó.

Será también la oportunidad para que los deportistas puedan decirle al mundo que el deporte no tiene barreras, no excluye, no tiene fronteras, es salud, une y enseña valores como el trabajo en equipo, el respeto y la lealtad, enfatizó.

El presidente Castillo precisó que el Gobierno, por medio del Instituto Peruano del Deporte (IPD) y el Consejo Nacional para la Integración de la Persona con Discapacidad (Conadis), promueve el deporte para las poblaciones más vulnerables, como son las personas con discapacidad, las cuales han sido olvidadas y postergadas en el pasado.

“Tenemos la firme decisión de promover el futsal a nivel de alta competencia, poner en vitrina las capacidades de las personas con síndrome de Down y, sobre todo, desterrar los mitos y prejuicios para construir una sociedad inclusiva, igualitaria y justa”, aseveró.

Subrayó que estos deportistas son el mejor ejemplo de lucha, perseverancia y superación, saben bien que no hay triunfo sin sacrificio y que se debe respetar las reglas de juego y al rival.

El jefe de Estado expresó también un reconocimiento especial a los padres de familia y a los entrenadores de los deportistas, cuyo apoyo y esfuerzo han hecho posible que lleguen a la selección y disputen este torneo mundial.

Dirigiéndose a los deportistas del seleccionado nacional, les indicó que son dignos representantes del Perú y los alentó a demostrar lo mejor de su talento, del amor a la patria y a dejar en alto el nombre del país.

“Sigan el ejemplo de los muchachos de la selección de fútbol que hace pocos días consiguieron el derecho a disputar el repechaje para ganar un cupo al Mundial Catar 2022, llevando alegría al pueblo peruano”, afirmó al inaugurar el certamen.

La ceremonia contó con la participación de la primera dama Lilia Paredes, quien tomó juramento a los deportistas; y de la ministra de la Mujer y Poblaciones Vulnerables, Diana Miloslavich; y se realizó en el velódromo del Centro de Alto Rendimiento de la Villa Deportiva Nacional (Videna), en el distrito de San Luis
