“Hoy estamos aquí con el propósito de mejorar la seguridad portuaria y prevenir la utilización de contenedores de carga marítima legítima para actividades ilícitas, en particular el tráfico ilícito de drogas y el contrabando de mercancías”, enfatizó.

Así lo manifestó el mandatario, tras inaugurar la Unidad de Control Conjunto del puerto de Paita, que en forma paralela inicia también operaciones en el puerto de Matarani (Arequipa).

El objetivo de dicha infraestructura permitirá mejorar la seguridad portuaria en el país y prevenir la utilización de contenedores de carga marítima legítima para actividades ilícitas, en particular el tráfico ilícito de drogas (TID), el contrabando de mercancías, entre otras.

“Ratifico, desde Piura, que en estos cinco años de gobierno estamos dispuestos a enfrentar y poner el pecho por el Perú ante los grandes flagelos que dañan a nuestra juventud, como el tráfico ilícito de drogas, el crimen organizado, la corrupción, la pobreza, la trata de personas”, remarcó.

En otro momento, desde el Puerto de Paita, sostuvo que “dichas medidas de control son complementarias a las estrategias de erradicación de cultivos ilícitos y a las de promoción de cultivos sostenibles y alternativos que venimos implementando”.

El jefe de Estado, afirmó que su gobierno aplicará tolerancia cero al narcotráfico en cualquiera de sus formas porque destruyen vidas y sociedades, indicó.

“Estoy seguro de que el inicio de operaciones de estas nuevas unidades de control conjunto contribuirán no solo a fortalecer nuestras capacidades portuarias contra el tráfico ilícito de drogas; sino que, además, reafirmará el compromiso inquebrantable del Perú y de mi gobierno en la lucha frontal contra este flagelo”, señaló.

Las nuevas infraestructuras forman parte del Programa Global de Control de Contenedores (PGCC) que pertenece a la Oficina de las Naciones Unidas contra la Droga y el Delito (ONUDD) y la Organización Mundial de Aduanas (OMA).

Dicho programa tiene como objetivo instalar unidades de control en varios puntos del litoral peruano. En la actualidad, existe solo una Unidad de Control Conjunto ubicada en el puerto del Callao, sin embargo a partir de hoy inician operaciones otras dos en Paita y Matarani.

Finalmente, el presidente destacó la participación del Perú en el PGCC desde el año 2016 y precisó que en el marco de ello, existe un memorando de entendimiento suscrito entre las Naciones Unidas, el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, la Sunat, la Policía Nacional del Perú, la Autoridad Portuaria Nacional y Devida.

En ese sentido, anunció la incorporación de la Marina de Guerra del Perú y del Ministerio Público a dicho programa para continuar haciendo frente a cualquier amenaza respecto a la seguridad portuaria.

“I am sure that the start of operations of these new joint control units will contribute not only to strengthening our port capacities against illicit drug trafficking; but, in addition, it will reaffirm the unwavering commitment of Peru and my government in the frontal fight against this scourge,” he said.

The new infrastructures are part of the Global Container Control Program (PGCC) that belongs to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The purpose of this program is to install control units at various points along the Peruvian coast. Currently, there is only one Joint Control Unit located in the port of Callao, however, as of today, two others are starting operations in Paita and Matarani.

Finally, the president highlighted Peru’s participation in the PGCC since 2016 and specified that within the framework of this, there is a memorandum of understanding signed between the United Nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sunat, the National Police of Peru , the National Port Authority and Devida.

In this sense, he announced the incorporation of the Peruvian Navy and the Public Ministry to said program to continue facing any threat regarding port security.
