“The Executive and Congress have established a regulatory framework so that these operations are controlled in an integral manner, paying taxes, such as in countries such as Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and a large part of the United States and Europe,” said the president after the enactment of the norm that was initiative of the Government.

The head of state explained that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) will be the administrative authority at the national level that will regulate, authorize, revoke, supervise and sanction the exploitation of online sports betting and games.

“For the first time, Peru is creating a special tax on internet gaming and sports betting of 12%, which will generate an annual collection for the State of S/ 156 million,” he added.

Of the amount collected, 40% will be allocated to tourism development, 20% to promote mental health and care for the affected population, and 20% to the Public Treasury, which could be used for government social policies.

“This is a law that will benefit the country, because on the one hand it will allow the State to have more resources to meet its obligations in economic and social matters, which will result in better living conditions, and on the other hand because it represents a step important in the formalization of activities that until today operated without any type of control”, he explained.

The head of state called on national and foreign businessmen to continue investing in the country and comply with their tax obligations within the framework of the aforementioned law. “We call on you to invest responsibly, to register in Peru and pay the corresponding taxes.”

“WE ARE GOING TO CHARGE TRIBUTES TO COMPANIES”
Along the same lines, he emphasized that the Government will continue to collect taxes from companies in order to protect society. “As we said on July 28, we are going to collect the taxes that correspond to the companies. President Castillo also highlighted the willingness of Congress to contribute to the approval of the rule at the initiative of the Government. “This is a clear example that when the Executive and Legislative Branches work hand in hand, when we put the country’s interests first, when we prioritize the agenda that the population needs, we can promote growth for the benefit of all citizens.”
