A invitación de su homólogo argentino, Alberto Fernández, el jefe de Estado junto al ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, César Landa; el ministro de Comercio Exterior y Turismo, Roberto Sánchez, y el representante permanente del Perú ante las Naciones Unidas (ONU) en Nueva York, Manuel Rodríguez recorrieron dicho lugar.

Cabe precisar que el Museo Sitio de Memoria ESMA, que funciona en Argentina, es candidata a ser reconocida como Patrimonio Mundial de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (Unesco).

La muestra incluye los hechos que tuvieron lugar en la República Argentina durante el período de terrorismo por crímenes de lesa humanidad, con lo que se busca evidenciar el proceso de lucha logrado en democracia para alcanzar justicia, según el gobierno argentino.

Participaron también del evento el cónsul argentino en Nueva York, Santiago Villalba; y la representante permanente de la República Argentina ante la Unesco, Marcela Losardo.
