El doctor José Arias, jefe del Servicio de Urología del referido nosocomio, explicó que la disfunción eréctil es la ausencia o incapacidad de mantener una erección firme para obtener una relación sexual satisfactoria.

Anotó que, de acuerdo a estadísticas, la mayor incidencia de disfunción eréctil ocurre en hombres entre los 40 y 70 años, que representa un 50% del total de casos; sin embargo, últimamente se registra un notorio incremento de esta dificultad en pacientes jóvenes.

Precisó que existen dos tipos de impotencia eréctil: la orgánica, que tiene como factores de riesgo la edad, el tabaquismo, la vida sedentaria, el aumento de colesterol, la diabetes y otras comorbilidades, y la psicológica que se presenta en pacientes jóvenes entre 20 y 30 años.

Mencionó que un ejemplo de disfunción eréctil orgánica es cuando se cae la erección en pleno acto sexual o eyacula precozmente, cuando antes no presentaba este episodio.

En cuanto a la disfunción eréctil psicológica, indicó que esta se evidencia cuando el hombre tiene relaciones con otras personas, pero que no tiene deseo sexual con su pareja estable.

Otra señal, refirió, es cuando presenta erecciones en las mañanas, sin embargo, en las noches no se logra ‘una buena performance’.

TRATAMIENTO
El especialista señaló que el tratamiento en casos de disfunción eréctil varía en función de cada paciente. Si el paciente es joven, será enviado al psicólogo para que recupere la confianza en su rendimiento sexual, mientras que a otros pacientes se les recomienda un tratamiento vía oral, con la llamada “pastilla azul”.

Si el paciente no responde a estos tratamientos, se opta por un procedimiento que consiste en inyectar sustancias vasoactivas en el pene (intracavernosa) para provocar una erección.

Otra alternativa, acotó, es el uso de una prótesis, que son semirrígidas o inflables. Este último tratamiento es muy difundido en otros países del mundo.

RECOMENDACIONES
El doctor Arias recomendó mantener una dieta saludable, realizar actividad física, evitar automedicarse y no consumir alcohol ni fumar. En caso de padecer diabetes, debe controlar los niveles de colesterol y glucosa.

“La mitad de los pacientes con disfunción eréctil toman medicamentos de forma indiscriminada para mejorar su rendimiento sexual; sin embargo, el problema continúa y debe ser tratado por un especialista que pueda confirmar otros posibles trastornos”, apuntó.

TREATMENT
The specialist pointed out that treatment in cases of erectile dysfunction varies depending on each patient. If the patient is young, he will be sent to a psychologist to regain confidence in his sexual performance, while other patients are recommended oral treatment, with the so-called “blue pill”.

If the patient does not respond to these treatments, a procedure is chosen that consists of injecting vasoactive substances into the penis (intracavernous) to cause an erection.

Another alternative, he noted, is the use of a prosthesis, which is semi-rigid or inflatable. This last treatment is very widespread in other countries of the world.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Dr. Arias recommended maintaining a healthy diet, physical activity, avoiding self-medication, and not consuming alcohol or smoking. If you have diabetes, you should control cholesterol and glucose levels.
