Peruvian exports maintained a stock of 3 million 615 thousand jobs, between January and October 2022, reported ADEX.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe Between January and October 2022, Peruvian shipments abroad maintained a stock of 3 million 615 thousand jobs (between direct, indirect and induced), showing an increase of 14.5% compared to the same period in 2021 (3 million 158 thousand), reported the Research Center for Global Economy and Business of the CIEN-ADEX Exporters Association.

Positive figures were observed in all sectors, with the exception of mining (-4.9%) and traditional fishing (-0.2%), affected by lower extraction and processing of some minerals and fishmeal.

Only 6 of the 14 items reached records compared to the same period in previous years (hydrocarbons, agro-industry, non-metallic mining, iron and steel, chemicals and metal-mechanics). Others did register increases, but did not reach their historical figures (traditional agriculture, clothing, fishing and aquaculture, textiles, wood and various).

Between January and October 2022, agribusiness was the main employment-generating activity associated with exports with more than 1 million 360 thousand, as a result of the greater shipments of superfoods to the foreign market.

Traditional mining followed (stock of 838 thousand 804) due to shipments of copper, iron, silver, zinc, among others. In third place was traditional agriculture with 534 thousand 586 due to the greater demand for labor for the processing and export of coffee.

The clothing item maintained a stock of 298,292 jobs due to higher shipments of cotton t-shirts, shirts, sweaters, baby clothes, dresses, etc. On the other hand, non-traditional fishing and aquaculture generated 163 thousand 898, favored by the increasing shipments of prawns, fish fillets and eggs, molluscs and canned tuna to the world.

Together, these 5 sectors concentrated 88% of the total jobs created by exports in the accumulated up to October 2022, detailed the report ‘Impact of exports: employment and GDP’ from CIEN-ADEX.

BY REGION Between January and October 2022, jobs associated with shipments to the international market fell in 7 regions: Apurímac, Puno, Tacna, Huancavelica, Moquegua, Cusco and Pasco. The most affected was Apurímac (-23 thousand 377) due to the lower mining production, its leading productive activity, due to the conflicts that slowed down the production of the Las Bambas mine.

The two regions with the highest job creation were Lima (936,600) and Ica (420,700), concentrating 38% of the total and having agribusiness as activity No. 1. In contrast, the regions with the lowest figures were Huánuco and Huancavelica, representing only 0.1% of the total.

THE DATA According to destinations, as of October 2022, the US continued as the first generator of jobs (957,400), mainly due to the increased demand for labor to send agro-industrial products, clothing, agriculture and mining traditional.
