Agencia Peruana de Noticias PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe/ Twitter: @prensaperupe El presidente del Congreso, José Williams Zapata, se reunió hoy con representantes del Consejo de la Prensa Peruana (CPP) y otros gremios periodísticos, para analizar la iniciativa legislativa 2862/2022-CR, que propone incrementar las penas por el daño al honor, la buena reputación, la intimidad de la persona y la familia por la utilización indebida de los medios de comunicación, redes sociales o sitios web.

En declaraciones para el Canal del Congreso, Williams resaltó que facilitará la solicitud de diálogo de los periodistas con las bancadas parlamentarias para una mayor discusión del proyecto de ley.

“Nos parece que es lo que corresponde en democracia. Vamos a acercar este pedido a fin de poder coordinar un cronograma de reuniones”, indicó tras señalar que también hizo conocer la preocupación de una parte de la ciudadanía que pueda verse afectada por alguna declaración o publicación por parte de la prensa.

En un mensaje a través de su cuenta de Twitter, Williams expresó: “Me he comprometido a trasladar los puntos de vista del Consejo de la Prensa Peruana, y otros gremios periodísticos, con todas las bancadas a fin de enriquecer el debate de la segunda votación del proyecto de ley que busca aumentar las penas por el delito de difamación”.

El titular del Parlamento, destacó la labor informativa de los medios de comunicación durante el gobierno del expresidente, Pedro Castillo. “Ahora se encuentra en ese lugar (penal de Barbadillo) en parte por la prensa que mantuvo informada a la población y a las instituciones del Estado, que reaccionaron en su momento (a la intentona golpista)”, sostuvo.

En la cita participaron María Eugenia Mohme, presidenta del CPP; Zuliana Láinez, presidenta de la Asociación Nacional de Periodistas (ANP) y Johnatan Limaylla, representante del Instituto Prensa y Sociedad.

Mohme indicó que Williams confirmó que el proyecto será debatido y votado la próxima semana, tras insistir que dicha propuesta es “lesivo para la libertad de expresión”.

En la cita, los gremios periodísticos entregaron un oficio mediante el cual solicitan al Parlamento, que se rechace el proyecto de ley ya que consideran que, si es aprobado, sería “una de las más graves afectaciones a la libertad de prensa del país”.

In statements for Canal del Congreso, Williams stressed that he will facilitate the journalists’ request for dialogue with the parliamentary benches for further discussion of the bill.

“It seems to us that it is what corresponds in a democracy. We are going to approach this request in order to be able to coordinate a schedule of meetings”, he indicated after noting that he also made known the concern of a part of the citizenry that may be affected by a statement or publication by the press.

In a message through his Twitter account, Williams expressed: “I have promised to transfer the points of view of the Peruvian Press Council, and other journalistic associations, with all the benches in order to enrich the debate of the second vote of the bill that seeks to increase the penalties for the crime of defamation.”

The head of Parliament highlighted the informative work of the media during the government of the former president, Pedro Castillo. “Now it is in that place (Barbadillo prison) in part because of the press that kept the population and State institutions informed, which reacted at the time (to the coup attempt),” he said.

The meeting was attended by María Eugenia Mohme, president of the CPP; Zuliana Láinez, president of the National Association of Journalists (ANP) and Johnatan Limaylla, representative of the Press and Society Institute.

Mohme indicated that Williams confirmed that the project will be debated and voted on next week, after insisting that said proposal is “harmful to freedom of expression.”

At the meeting, the journalistic unions delivered an official letter by which they request Parliament to reject the bill since they consider that, if approved, it would be “one of the most serious effects on press freedom in the country.”
