En la actividad participaron el viceministro de Prestaciones Sociales, Alejandro Pozo Zárate; el presidente del Área Sudamérica Noroestee de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, Élder Jorge F. Zeballos; el presidente ejecutivo de la ONG Management Sciences For Health Perú, Edgar Medina Figueroa; y el director ejecutivo de Pensión 65, Julio Mendigure.

Al respecto, el viceministro Alejandro Pozo afirmó que, en su rol articulador, el Midis gracias a la participación de valiosos aliados, facilita a los adultos mayores servicios complementarios. “De esta manera, no solo reciben una pensión económica, sino también aportamos a su inclusión social, a que tengan una mejor calidad de vida y promovemos el ejercicio de sus derechos ciudadanos”, señaló.

Entre tanto, la autoridad general de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, el Élder Jorge F. Zeballos sostuvo que, con los lentes, “quienes no pueden disfrutar de algo tan sencillo como leer los mensajes de sus nietos, ahora podrán hacerlo; sin duda, es una importante solución para miles de personas”.

Por su parte, el representante de MSH Perú, precisó que este proyecto abrirá nuevos escenarios en la salud pública, porque se harán evaluaciones que representarán para el país los primeros pasos que ayudarán al envejecimiento saludable de esta población que sigue creciendo.

La actividad se realizó en el marco del convenio entre Pensión 65 y MSH Perú, institución que a su vez suscribió una alianza interinstitucional con la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, a través de los cuales, los usuarios y usuarias de Pensión 65, recibirán lentes de lectura, lo que les permitirá retomar algunas de sus habilidades como leer, coser o escribir y, a la vez, aumentar su autoestima.

Este año, la ONG MSH Perú gestionó con la ONG Restoring Vision y la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, 166 000 pares de lentes de lectura; además, la entrega de 50 000 lentes de sol con protección UV, sumando un total de 216 000.

El programa Pensión 65 y la ONG MSH-Perú llevan adelante la campaña “Para verte mejor”; en noviembre de 2018 firmaron el primer convenio de cooperación, mediante el cual fueron entregados a junio 2023 – durante los procesos de pago y de actividades complementarias – un total de 109 302 lentes de medida y 15 937 lentes de sol. En total, fueron distribuidos en 620 distritos de 19 regiones.
