Agencia Peruana de Noticias PRENSAPERU.PE  https://prensaperu.pe/ Twitter: @prensaperupe En una emotiva ceremonia, la ministra de Comercio Exterior y Turismo, Desilú León, hizo entrega de reconocimientos a los cinco destinos peruanos que fueron seleccionados por la ONU Turismo como parte de la prestigiosa lista de los “Mejores Pueblos Turísticos del Mundo” (“Best Tourism Villages” – BTV).

Se trata de los poblados de Huancaya (Lima), Leimebamba (Amazonas), Maras (Cusco), Quinua (Ayacucho) y Sibayo (Arequipa), que el pasado 14 de noviembre de 2024 fueron distinguidos de entre 55 localidades de diversos países por su riqueza cultural, sostenibilidad y aporte al turismo rural.

“Esta distinción no solo coloca a estos pueblos en los ojos del mundo, sino que también resalta su capacidad de preservar y promover sus paisajes, tradiciones, gastronomía y valores comunitarios, integrando el turismo como una herramienta para el desarrollo sostenible”, destacó la titular del Ministerio de Comercio Exterior y Turismo (Mincetur).

La entrega de este reconocimiento a las autoridades de los cinco poblados reconocidos se realizó en la Huaca Mateo Salado, en el Cercado de Lima. Esta actividad contó con la presencia de la viceministra de Turismo, Madeleine Burns, y la congresista Luz María Zeta, así como de los alcaldes distritales de Maras, Perci Huamán; Quinua, Rupert Límaco; Abanto Miranda; Leimebamba, Luis Álex Zumaeta, y Sibayo, Pepe Pedro Samayani, y la teniente alcaldesa de Huancaya, Carmela Sandoval.

“Más allá́ de los criterios técnicos, lo que realmente hace especial este reconocimiento es el espíritu de su gente. Son las familias, los artesanos que dan forma a la historia con sus manos, los agricultores que trabajan la tierra con amor y los emprendedores que abren sus puertas al mundo con hospitalidad y calidez”, detalló la ministra Desilú León.

La entrega de este título se da en el marco de la iniciativa “Best Tourism Villages” de la ONU Turismo. Las distinciones fueron entregadas por esta organización internacional al Mincetur en una ceremonia celebrada en noviembre del 2024, en la ciudad de Cartagena, Colombia.

Es importante mencionar que este logro fue el resultado de un trabajo coordinado entre el Mincetur, los gobiernos locales y las comunidades involucradas en las fases de postulación y evaluación de los pueblos en áreas clave como la preservación del patrimonio natural y cultural, la sostenibilidad de estos espacios en todas sus dimensiones, su infraestructura, la conectividad y la seguridad.

“La inversión privada tiene un papel muy importante y crucial para transformar estos reconocimientos en polos de desarrollo sostenibles. Invertir en estos pueblos no solo es rentable, sino que es apostar por la vida, por la cultura, por el Perú profundo que tanto nos enorgullece”, añadió la titular del Mincetur.

CASCAS: CAMINO A SER MEJOR PUEBLO TURÍSTICO DEL MUNDO

Durante la ceremonia también se entregó un reconocimiento al poblado de Cascas, que fue recibido por el alcalde provincial de Gran Chimú (La Libertad), Diber Pérez, por ser incluido en el Programa Upgrade de la ONU Turismo, mediante la cual se brinda apoyo a un grupo selecto de destinos que están avanzando en el cumplimiento de los criterios establecidos por la iniciativa BTV. De esa manera estos poblados podrán alcanzar la puntuación suficiente para recibir el título de “Mejor Pueblo Turístico del Mundo”.

En un video presentado en la ceremonia de reconocimiento, la directora ejecutiva de la ONU Turismo, Zoritsa Urosevic, destacó que a la fecha el Perú logró el reconocimiento de 13 poblados por la iniciativa BTV y de otros tres que participan del programa Upgrade. “Esto demuestra que las políticas del país en esta área son un ejemplo del liderazgo del país en turismo rural y desarrollo”, resaltó.

A la fecha, Perú se posiciona, después de China, como el segundo país con el mayor número de destinos que ostentan el título de “Mejores Pueblos Turísticos del Mundo”. Conforman también esta lista los poblados de Ollantaytambo, Raqchi y Paucartambo (los tres en Cusco), Chacas y Chavín de Huantar (ambos en Áncash), Lamas (San Martín), Pozuzo (Pasco) y Taquile (Puno).

MEJORES PUEBLOS TURÍSTICOS DEL MUNDO

La iniciativa BTV de la ONU Turismo reconoce a los pueblos que constituyen ejemplos notables de destinos de turismo rural y que promueven y preservan los valores, productos y estilos de vida rurales y comunitarios.

Entre los pueblos reconocidos se encuentra Huancaya, que destaca por la belleza paisajística de sus cascadas y lagunas y por mantener vivas sus costumbres. También se encuentra Leimebamba que resalta por sus ambientes llenos de montañas, bosques y neblinas y su pasado vinculado a la cultura Chachapoyas.

Por su parte, Maras es un destino que destaca por sus icónicas salineras y su historia milenaria. De igual manera, Quinua es un destino que brilla por ser el lugar donde se selló la independencia del Perú y por sus muestras culturales y artesanías. Asimismo, Sibayo obtuvo el reconocimiento por ser un destino que preserva sus tradiciones en sus viviendas de piedra y tejidos ancestrales, así como en la calidez de su gente. 

Los cinco poblados reconocidos como “Mejores Pueblos Turísticos del Mundo” en el 2024 formarán parte de la Red BTV que sirve como un espacio de intercambio de experiencias y buenas prácticas, aprendizajes y oportunidades y en el que se reciben aportes de expertos y socios del sector público y privado dedicados a la promoción del turismo para el desarrollo rural.

UN Tourism declares and recognizes five towns in Peru as “Best Tourist Towns in the World”.

These are the towns of Huancaya (Lima), Leimebamba (Amazonas), Maras (Cusco), Quinua (Ayacucho) and Sibayo (Arequipa), which on November 14, 2024 were distinguished from among 55 towns in various countries for their cultural richness, sustainability and contribution to rural tourism.

“This distinction not only places these towns in the eyes of the world, but also highlights their ability to preserve and promote their landscapes, traditions, gastronomy and community values, integrating tourism as a tool for sustainable development,” highlighted the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

The delivery of this recognition to the authorities of the five recognized towns took place in the Huaca Mateo Salado, in Cercado de Lima. This activity was attended by the Vice Minister of Tourism, Madeleine Burns, and Congresswoman Luz María Zeta, as well as the district mayors of Maras, Perci Huamán; Quinua, Rupert Límaco; Abanto Miranda; Leimebamba, Luis Álex Zumaeta, and Sibayo, Pepe Pedro Samayani, and the deputy mayor of Huancaya, Carmela Sandoval.

“Beyond the technical criteria, what really makes this recognition special is the spirit of its people. They are the families, the artisans who shape history with their hands, the farmers who work the land with love and the entrepreneurs who open their doors to the world with hospitality and warmth,” explained Minister Desilú León.

The awarding of this title takes place within the framework of the “Best Tourism Villages” initiative of UN Tourism. The distinctions were presented by this international organization to Mincetur in a ceremony held in November 2024, in the city of Cartagena, Colombia.

It is important to mention that this achievement was the result of coordinated work between Mincetur, local governments and communities involved in the application and evaluation phases of the towns in key areas such as the preservation of natural and cultural heritage, the sustainability of these spaces in all their dimensions, their infrastructure, connectivity and security.

“Private investment has a very important and crucial role in transforming these recognitions into sustainable development poles. Investing in these towns is not only profitable, but it is betting on life, on culture, on the deep Peru that makes us so proud,” added the head of Mincetur.

CASCAS: PATH TO BEING THE BEST TOURIST TOWN IN THE WORLD
During the ceremony, recognition was also given to the town of Cascas, which was received by the provincial mayor of Gran Chimú (La Libertad), Diber Pérez, for being included in the UN Tourism Upgrade Program, through which support is provided to a select group of destinations that are advancing in compliance with the criteria established by the BTV initiative. In this way, these towns will be able to achieve enough points to receive the title of “Best Tourist Town in the World”.

In a video presented at the recognition ceremony, the executive director of UN Tourism, Zoritsa Urosevic, highlighted that to date Peru has achieved the recognition of 13 towns through the BTV initiative and another three that participate in the Upgrade program. “This shows that the country’s policies in this area are an example of the country’s leadership in rural tourism and development,” he highlighted.

To date, Peru is positioned, after China, as the second country with the largest number of destinations that hold the title of “Best Tourist Towns in the World.” The towns of Ollantaytambo, Raqchi and Paucartambo (all three in Cusco), Chacas and Chavín de Huantar (both in Áncash), Lamas (San Martín), Pozuzo (Pasco) and Taquile (Puno) also make up this list.

BEST TOURIST TOWNS IN THE WORLD
The UN Tourism BTV initiative recognizes towns that are notable examples of rural tourism destinations and that promote and preserve rural and community values, products and lifestyles.

Among the recognized towns is Huancaya, which stands out for the scenic beauty of its waterfalls and lagoons and for keeping its customs alive. There is also Leimebamba, which stands out for its environments full of mountains, forests and mists and its past linked to the Chachapoyas culture.

For its part, Maras is a destination that stands out for its iconic salt mines and its ancient history. Likewise, Quinua is a destination that shines for being the place where the independence of Peru was sealed and for its cultural samples and crafts. Likewise, Sibayo obtained recognition for being a destination that preserves its traditions in its stone homes and ancestral fabrics, as well as in the warmth of its people.

The five towns recognized as “Best Tourist Towns in the World” in 2024 will be part of the BTV Network, which serves as a space for exchanging experiences and good practices, learning and opportunities and in which contributions are received from experts and partners from the public and private sectors dedicated to the promotion of tourism for rural development.
