Come back every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., the “Agrobiodiversity Seminar” with everything about our agricultural biodiversity.

The seminar had a first edition in 2021, presenting 22 talks every Wednesday from May to November and from which the importance of scientific research on agrobiodiversity and its role in food security and in the identity of Peru were highlighted. This first cycle managed to reach more than 300 thousand people from different regions of the country.

In this 2022, the Concytec inaugurates a new edition of the Seminar offering the talk “The miracle of bread: family farming and population growth”, by the prominent economist Richard Webb, former president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru. The talk will revolve around how agricultural activity, and in particular small-scale family farming, despite its lack of technology, migration from the countryside to the city, low growth in new farmland, among other factors, has known how to face the country’s population growth while maintaining its biodiversity and reach on the tables of all Peruvians.

With this cycle, the Concytec seeks to contribute to the dialogue for decision-making that guarantees the promotion and conservation of our agrobiodiversity, and our food security in the event of a possible global food crisis, around a greater variety of crops, promotion of themselves, bring producers closer to the market, favor agrodiverse markets and promote a lot of information to the consumer.

Richard Webb has a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, has been president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru twice, and a university professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and at Princeton and Toronto universities. He was a research economist at the World Bank and a historian at the Brookings Institution. Since 2004 he has served as director of the Institute of Peru at the Universidad San Martín de Porres.
