“Rising prices of basic necessities, and shortages of fertilizers, are not the fault of this government, said President Pedro Castillo.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo Terrones, said the day before that the rise in prices of basic necessities, as well as the shortage of fertilizers, are not the fault of this government and respond to other factors such as the global problems caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“The cost of chicken, the cost of bread, the cost of basic necessities, as well as the lack of fertilizers, is not the fault of this government, it is not the fault of this regime, it is also due to the problem of the war between Russia and Ukraine”, he reiterated during a meeting with more than 500 residents and social organizations from the district of Pampas, province of Tayacaja in the Huancavelica region.

The head of state said that his predecessors did not worry about meeting the country’s needs in a timely manner and criticized the poor response of the State when the pandemic occurred that left a balance of 230,000 deaths in the country and a collapse of the health system in which now the Executive is working to resolve and restructure.

He confirmed that the war between Russia and Ukraine is raising the prices of all inputs worldwide, which includes minerals.

In this context, he stated that Peru must take advantage of this situation to achieve greater benefits and opportunities considering the natural resources it possesses, such as copper, gold and other mining products.

“From this square I call on the Congress of the Republic to once and for all allow a tax to be charged on the excess profits of mining companies and other companies,” he remarked.

He explained that if these revenues were generated, they would help rescue our economy and address the social gaps that remain in the country. “With more resources we can give priority to a highway, a hospital and a university that the people demand,” he said.

On the other hand, the president asserted that in the eleven months that his government has been in office, he has not been able to demonstrate “not a bit” or “evidence” of corruption.

“They want to find the president some proof where he orders that so much be given to a company or a phone call with a minister telling him that he is putting him in office, but there is no evidence; those who are used to that want to put us in the same bag,” he said.
