La visita del jefe de Estado al hito adquiere especial relevancia porque después de más de 20 años un mandatario recorre los puestos fronterizos de la zona. El Hito N° 206 está situado en la desembocadura del río Güeppí y representa el segundo punto más alejado del norte del país.

Cabe indicar que Ley N° 29778, Ley Marco para el Desarrollo e Integración Fronteriza, define los espacios de frontera y establece los mecanismos de formulación, coordinación, ejecución y seguimiento de la Política Nacional de Desarrollo e Integración Fronterizos, que es parte de la Política Exterior y de la Política Nacional de Desarrollo.

El mandatario recorrió la zona junto ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, César Landa Arroyo; el ministro de Comercio Exterior y Turismo, Roberto Sánchez Palomino; Vivienda, Construcción y Saneamiento, César Paniagua Chacón; y la ministra de Desarrollo Agrario y Riego, Jenny Ocampo Escalante.
