La Asamblea fue inaugurada oficialmente el martes 5 de septiembre de 2023, mientras que al día siguiente el miércoles 6 de septiembre se dieron inicio al 78º periodo de sesiones de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, donde los líderes mundiales se reúnen para debatir asuntos, desafíos y soluciones de interés global, tales como la acción climática, los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible, la salud y el futuro de las instituciones internacionales.
Es así que omo parte de la sesión anual de la 78° Asamblea General de la Naciones Unidas, se celebrará un Debate General que suele reunir a Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno, y que este año tendrá lugar del martes 19 al martes 26 del mes en curso
Este año el tema será «Reconstruir la confianza y reactivar la solidaridad mundial», en la que los líderes mundiales estudian las soluciones a retos mundiales interrelacionados para avanzar en la consecución de la paz, seguridad y desarrollo sostenible.
