Actualmente el achiote peruano tiene un grado de bixina (le da ese color rojo intenso tan característico) menor a los 3.000 gr./100 gr. y con esta iniciativa sería mayor a 3.625 gr./100 gr., con lo cual sería más demandado por los grandes compradores.
“Hasta el momento, y como parte de este proyecto, se implementó un jardín clonal en Pichanaqui, Junín, con 7 accesiones de muestras procedentes de Loreto y San Martín, en respuesta a un pedido del Comité de Colorantes Naturales de ADEX”, detalló la gerenta de Agroexportaciones del gremio, Claudia Solano Oré.
El achiote, cuyas zonas productoras están ubicadas en Cusco, Pasco, Junín y Ayacucho, es usado en la industria textil, de alimentos y en el rubro de la cosmética –puntualizó–, todo este esfuerzo tiene como propósito convertirlo en otra estrella de las agroexportaciones peruanas.
La vocera recordó que, en el 2020, el INIA concluyó la primera etapa identificando y seleccionando accesiones élites, a través del proyecto ‘Evaluación de dos métodos de clonación de plantas superiores de achiote para el establecimiento de un jardín clonal en la Estación Experimental Agraria’.
También se culminó con un artículo científico sobre su caracterización morfológica, un manual técnico del cultivo con información sobre el manejo y recomendaciones técnicas a fin de llevar a cabo una plantación exitosa.
EXPORTACIÓN DE ACHIOTE: CIFRAS
Según la Gerencia de Agroexportaciones de ADEX, entre enero y septiembre último la exportación de achiote y sus derivados (bixina y norbixina) sumó US$ 14 millones 621 mil, logrando un incremento de 19% respecto al mismo periodo del 2022 cuando el monto ascendió a US$ 12 millones 316 mil.
El mercado líder fue EE.UU. (US$ 4 millones 980 mil), seguido de China (US$ 1 millón 171 mil), Japón (US$ 1 millón 046 mil), Egipto (US$ 1 millón 005 mil), Alemania (US$ 588 mil 049) y México (US$ 544 mil 450).
