En la ceremonia de develación del busto conmemorativo, el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores indicó que con este homenaje se busca reconocer el legado del embajador Alzamora Traverso. “Deseamos que quede perenne en este nuevo edificio”, afirmó.

Carlos Felipe Alzamora Traverso se unió al Servicio Diplomático de la República en 1948 y desarrolló una prolífica carrera. Ocupó los cargos de Embajador del Perú en Estados Unidos; Secretario Permanente del Sistema Económico Latinoamericano (SELA); Representante Permanente del Perú en las Naciones Unidas en Ginebra; Representante Permanente ante las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York; y ocupó la Vicepresidencia de la Asamblea General.

Fue delegado del Perú en el Consejo de Seguridad. Entre los años 1991 y 1996 se desempeñó como Secretario Ejecutivo de la Comisión de compensación de daños y reclamos del Consejo de Seguridad, creada en el marco de la invasión de Iraq a Kuwait.

“Todos hechos con éxito, rindiendo cuentas y siendo un personaje internacional”, enfatizó el canciller González-Olaechea.

Asimismo, el embajador Alzamora Traverso cumplió una importante labor en la reconstrucción de relaciones con el Ecuador postconflicto de la década del 40 y fue el presidente de la primera misión comercial a China en 1971. Resalta su importante rol en la expansión de acuerdos comerciales que han generado oportunidades para el Perú en el ámbito global.

En la actividad el ministro calificó al embajador Alzamora como un gran diplomático, “peruanista y visionario para su época de lo que sucedía en el mundo, con capacidad de propuestas”.

Asimismo, detalló la relación que mantuvo con el embajador a lo largo de los años y dio fe de su condición de “referente más allá de Torre Tagle”.

Carlos Felipe Alzamora Traverso joined the Diplomatic Service of the Republic in 1948 and developed a prolific career. He held the positions of Ambassador of Peru to the United States; Permanent Secretary of the Latin American Economic System (SELA); Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations in Geneva; Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York; and held the Vice-Presidency of the General Assembly.

He was a delegate of Peru to the Security Council. Between 1991 and 1996 he served as Executive Secretary of the Commission for Compensation of Damage and Claims of the Security Council, created within the framework of Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.

“All done successfully, being accountable and being an international character,” emphasized Foreign Minister González-Olaechea.

Likewise, Ambassador Alzamora Traverso carried out an important job in rebuilding relations with Ecuador after the conflict of the 1940s and was the president of the first trade mission to China in 1971. He highlights his important role in the expansion of trade agreements that have generated opportunities for Peru in the global arena.

In the activity, the minister described Ambassador Alzamora as a great diplomat, “Peruvian and visionary for his time of what was happening in the world, with the ability to make proposals.”

Likewise, he detailed the relationship he had with the ambassador over the years and attested to his status as a “reference beyond Torre Tagle.”
