Este importante grupo de piezas fue repatriado gracias a gestiones realizadas por la Dirección de Patrimonio Cultural de la Cancillería, los Consulados y Embajadas peruanas acreditadas en esos países y autoridades locales, así como la Dirección de Recuperaciones del Ministerio de Cultura.

“Desde 2019, Perú ha logrado recuperar más de 7,000 piezas de su patrimonio cultural, afirmándose como un referente internacional de la lucha contra el tráfico ilícito de bienes culturales”, explicó el canciller González-Olaechea.

En esta ocasión, entre la lista de bienes culturales, se encuentra una colección de material arqueológico devuelto por la hija del investigador estadounidense John Rowe. Está compuesto por 4555 fragmentos y una vasija que fueron recolectado superficialmente de varios sitios arqueológicos a lo largo del Perú.

Con este material el arqueólogo y antropólogo Rowe elaboró su propuesta cronológica, basada en Horizontes e Intermedios, que se mantiene vigente como base explicativa de nuestra historia prehispánica. Su repatriación estuvo a cargo del Consulado General del Perú en San Francisco.

También en esta lista se ubican 33 bienes culturales repatriados desde Italia. Entre ellos se encuentran 21 piezas que retornaron al Perú tras un proceso judicial que duró más de 15 años, después que en el 2008 el Comando de Carabineros de la Tutela del Patrimonio de Italia incautara las piezas nacionales que se encontraban en la galería de arte Pavignano.

Entre los bienes destacan cuatro unkus o camisas de estilos Nazca, Wari e Inca, dos mantos de estilo Paracas y Nazca, y 13 paños textiles de grandes dimensiones provenientes de las culturales Chimú, Chancay, Nazca, Wari e Inca.

Las otras piezas recuperadas en territorio italiano son tres cerámicas de estilo Nazca y Chimú devueltas por una ciudadana de ese país y 9 bienes culturales entregados a la Embajada del Perú en Italia tras ser incautadas por el Comando de Carabineros de la Tutela del Patrimonio de Italia.

Mientras que de Alemania retornaron voluntariamente tres protocolos notariales, pertenecientes al Archivo General de la Nación, que se encontraban a la venta en la plataforma EBay. En tanto que en Portugal se recuperó un sahumador de plata escultórico, fechado entre los siglos XVIII y XIX que estaba siendo subastado por la Casa Veritas Art Auctioneers, en octubre 2020.

A ellos se suman cuatro cerámicas prehispánicas incautados por el Grupo especializado para la transferencia internacional de la propiedad cultural de la Oficina Federal de Suiza (OFC) y un bien arqueológico devuelto voluntariamente en Países Bajos.

En la ceremonia el canciller Javier González-Olaechea agradeció al secretario de Estado de EE.UU., Antony Blinken y al Gobierno de ese país por la reciente entrega en Washington D.C. de un importante documento del siglo XVI, recuperado por el FBI en el marco del acuerdo de protección y restitución de bienes culturales suscrito entre ambos Estados, en vigor desde el 27 de abril de 2023.

El documento, fechado el 28 de junio de 1599, es un contrato para la formación en Lima de la primera compañía teatral de América. Este importante registro de nuestra historia será entregado al Ministerio de Cultura en la siguiente ceremonia, junto a otros valiosos bienes culturales que se repatriaran próximamente.

Added to these are four pre-Hispanic ceramics seized by the Specialized Group for the International Transfer of Cultural Property of the Swiss Federal Office (OFC) and an archaeological asset voluntarily returned to the Netherlands.

At the ceremony, Foreign Minister Javier González-Olaechea thanked the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Government of that country for the recent delivery in Washington D.C. of an important document from the 16th century, recovered by the FBI within the framework of the agreement for the protection and restitution of cultural property signed between both States, in force since April 27, 2023.

The document, dated June 28, 1599, is a contract for the formation in Lima of the first theater company in America. This important record of our history will be delivered to the Ministry of Culture in the following ceremony, along with other valuable cultural assets that will be repatriated soon.
