Es una jornada que se ha utilizado para realizar diferentes reivindicaciones sociales y laborales a favor de las clases trabajadoras. Es día festivo nacional en la mayoría de países.
El 1º de mayo tiene su origen a finales del siglo XIX, cuando los trabajadores hacían jornadas de 12 a 18 horas en el contexto industrial de grandes fábricas. En Estados Unidos, el movimiento obrero iba creciendo y reclamaba la máxima de “ocho horas de trabajo, ocho horas de descanso y ocho horas de ocio”.
EN EL PERÚ EL 1 DE MAYO En el Perú, el 1 de mayo de 1905, Manuel Lévano, anarquista y dirigente sindical, anunció el inicio de las luchas por la conquista de las 8 horas en nuestro país, con el apoyo del escritor Manuel González Prada, y la Federación de Estudiantes del Perú encabezada por Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre (Fundador de la Alianza Popular Revolucionaria Americana APRA).
El Día del Trabajador, es una fecha que se conmemora a nivel global para rendir homenaje a la lucha de los trabajadores por sus derechos y condiciones laborales dignas. Esta jornada histórica, marcada por las reivindicaciones laborales desde finales del siglo XIX, para nuestro país esta fecha tiene un significado muy especial, ya que en el Perú, casi 6 millones de peruanos han emprendido sus propios negocios laborales ya sean en bienes o servicios.
ORIGEN EL DÍA DEL TRABAJO En París, en 1889, durante un congreso de la Segunda Internacional (asociación de partidos socialistas, laboristas y anarquistas de todo el mundo), se estableció el 1 de Mayo como Día del Trabajador para conmemorar a los Mártires de Chicago.
