La labor de los defensores públicos en las Unidades de Flagrancia consiste en asistir técnicamente a los detenidos y reunir toda la información para la preparación de su defensa, a fin de garantizar el debido proceso y evitar que se dilate el proceso, consiguiendo así sentencias en breves plazos.

Precisamente, uno de los aspectos más destacables de las Unidades de Flagrancia es su capacidad para operar de manera ininterrumpida las 24 horas del día, los 7 días de la semana. Esta disponibilidad continua asegura que, ante cualquier situación de flagrancia delictiva, los involucrados reciban atención inmediata.

Las Unidades de Flagrancia son una respuesta innovadora que concentra en un solo espacio físico a todas las instituciones que participan en la investigación y sanción de delitos cometidos en flagrancia como la Policía, el Ministerio Público, el Poder Judicial y el MINJUSDH a través de la Defensa Pública.

La respuesta asertiva que vienen dando las Unidades de Flagrancia en favor de la ciudadanía en general se refleja en las sentencias más rápidas y oportunas para delitos contra el patrimonio como la micro comercialización de drogas, hurtos simples, hurtos agravados, robos simples, robos agravados, tenencia ilegal de armas y peligro común, los cuales se resuelven en un plazo máximo de 72 horas.
