En el Cuarto de Guerra, la presidenta recibió entre aplausos a los suboficiales PNP Gilmer Torres y Pablo Baltazar, a quienes rindió homenaje por sus valientes intervenciones.

En el caso del suboficial PNP Gilmer Torres Bello, este realizaba servicio de taxi cuando fue interceptado por un grupo de jóvenes que fingieron ser pasajeros. Uno de ellos, armado con un revólver, intentó robarle el vehículo en Chiclayo.

Ante el peligro inminente, el policía reaccionó disparando y abatió al delincuente. Sin embargo, el Poder Judicial de Lambayeque lo condenó a 10 años de prisión y al pago de una reparación civil de 5000 soles.

“Aunque el viernes pasado fue absuelto, este caso deja un mensaje preocupante que debilita a nuestra institución: que nuestros efectivos pueden sentirse limitados por la ley, temiendo actuar con firmeza contra la delincuencia por el riesgo de ser denunciados y juzgados, como ocurrió en esta situación, afectando su honor y dignidad. Eso no puede ocurrir más”, afirmó la presidenta.

De igual modo, la jefa de Estado brindó un reconocimiento al suboficial PNP Pablo Baltazar Sánchez, quien fue herido de bala al intentar detener a un delincuente que huía tras asaltar a un cambista en San Borja.

Como consecuencia de su acto de valentía, uno de los criminales le disparó en el rostro. Ha perdido el ojo derecho y corre el riesgo de quedar completamente sin visión. Ante ello, la mandataria anunció que será tratado en la clínica Barraquer de Colombia “con una cobertura total”.

“Parece que los derechos humanos solo aplican cuando el caído es un delincuente y no cuando es un hombre que viste el uniforme del pueblo, que arriesga su vida por nosotros. Basta ya de hipocresías”, enfatizó la mandataria.

Al respecto, refiriéndose a ambos casos, la jefa de Estado afirmó que su Gobierno no permitirá que nuestros policías ni los miembros de nuestras Fuerzas Armadas queden desamparados.

Del mismo modo, anunció que, en el caso del suboficial Torres Bello, los defensores públicos lo acompañarán hasta que el proceso judicial concluya y su caso sea completamente archivado.

“No seremos indulgentes. Hay que decir las cosas como son: si un efectivo no dispara, lo matan o lo dejan gravemente herido; pero si, en legítima defensa, enfrenta a los delincuentes y los abate, termina en prisión. Eso no puede seguir”, sentenció.

In this regard, referring to both cases, the head of state affirmed that her government will not allow our police officers or members of our Armed Forces to be left helpless.

Similarly, she announced that, in the case of Warrant Officer Torres Bello, public defenders will accompany him until the judicial process concludes and his case is completely dismissed.

“We will not be lenient. We must call things as they are: if an officer doesn’t shoot, he is killed or seriously injured; but if, in self-defense, he confronts the criminals and kills them, he ends up in prison. This cannot continue,” she stated.
