Piero Alessandro Corvetto Salinas ha presentado su renuncia irrevocable a la Jefatura Nacional, decisión que ha sido rápidamente aceptada por el Pleno de la Junta Nacional de Justicia (JNJ) mediante la Resolución n.° 119-2026, dejando oficialmente vacante el cargo. Este movimiento se da en un momento álgido para la nación, inmersa en un proceso electoral crucial.
La ONPE (Oficina Nacional de Procesos Electorales) es un organismo autónomo y especializado que tiene a su cargo la organización y ejecución de los procesos electorales, de referéndum y otras consultas populares. Su misión es garantizar la eficiencia, transparencia y neutralidad de los comicios.

Pero la visión de la ONPE no se detiene ahí; simultáneamente, la institución está sentando las bases para las innovadoras Elecciones Primarias de cara a los comicios regionales y municipales de 2026, fijadas para el 17 y 24 de mayo, una muestra de su dinamismo y planificación a futuro.
Por otro lado, la JNJ (Junta Nacional de Justicia), como garante de la independencia y probidad de las instituciones clave del país, ha actuado con celeridad. Tras ser informada de la renuncia de Corvetto Salinas, su Presidencia convocó de urgencia a un Pleno extraordinario. La deliberación fue unánime: la renuncia fue aceptada de inmediato, y se notificó a las otras entidades del sistema electoral (JNE, Reniec) para la coordinación necesaria.
Un aspecto de suma importancia, y que resalta el compromiso de la JNJ con la rendición de cuentas, es la decisión de mantener la investigación preliminar contra el exjefe de la ONPE. A pesar de su renuncia, la JNJ subraya que las indagaciones relacionadas con “hechos de público conocimiento” ocurridos durante la jornada electoral del 12 de abril de 2026 seguirán adelante. Este gesto reafirma la inquebrantable postura de la Junta: sus acciones se regirán siempre por el debido proceso y su mandato constitucional, blindando así la transparencia, la legalidad y la robustez del sistema democrático peruano ante cualquier eventualidad.

Abogado con maestría en derecho constitucional y postgrados en administración de empresas, posee más de veinte años de experiencia en el sector público y privado, incluyendo cargos directivos y de asesoramiento en organismos electorales como la ONPE y el RENIEC. Tras la renuncia de Piero Corvetto Salinas, asume como jefe interino de la ONPE, garantizando la continuidad de las labores electorales, incluyendo el procesamiento de actas y los preparativos para la Segunda Elección Presidencial. This movement comes at a critical time for the nation, immersed in a crucial electoral process.

After being informed of Corvetto Salinas’s resignation, its Presidency immediately convened an extraordinary Plenary session. The deliberation was unanimous: the resignation was accepted immediately, and the other entities of the electoral system (JNE, Reniec) were notified for the necessary coordination.
An aspect of utmost importance, which highlights the JNJ’s commitment to accountability, is the decision to maintain the preliminary investigation against the former head of the ONPE. Following the resignation of Piero Corvetto Salinas, he assumes as interim head of the ONPE, guaranteeing the continuity of electoral work, including the processing of records and preparations for the Second Presidential Election.
