The business union pointed out that Qatar is one of the most important economies in the world, since at the end of 2021, its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was around US$ 179,570 million, a figure 1.5% higher than in 2020.

Despite the fact that there is no free trade agreement that promotes trade, in 2018 both countries signed four agreements in order to deepen bilateral relations, two of them linked to the improvement of treaty processes and international instruments and cooperation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.

Another for the elimination of visa requirements for diplomatic and special passports, and the last as a cooperation mechanism with the National Institute of Civil Defense for the exchange of experiences in response to natural disasters and humanitarian aid.

ADEX highlighted the potential of Peruvian products as they are of high quality, highly valued worldwide for their great functionality, good for health and appreciated in the world due to the health situation. This is the case of Andean grains, fruits, vegetables, agro-industrial products, among others, that is, those that today represent a healthy diet.

In 2021, Peru was the world supplier No. 85 of Qatar and the No. 8 level of South America, behind Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay. If the calculation is made, Peru represents a minimal percentage of Qatari imports.

Just last year, shipments to that Asian destination amounted to US$322,749, reflecting a decline of -67.4% compared to 2020 (US$991,000). The highest figure recorded was in 2017 when it exceeded US$ 5 million 453 thousand.

CARARI CONSUMER
Qatar is a country that clearly imports consumer goods and industrial products, since local production is practically non-existent. It has 2 million 900 thousand inhabitants, who travel and experience new types of food influenced by frequent business trips and tourism to other countries.

This affects the behavior of buyers who little by little become more sophisticated and educated in their purchasing decision processes. “Now they prioritize high quality, preferring gourmet, organic and healthy products,” the union concluded.
