Lo hizo durante una rueda de prensa junto al presidente de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
El mandatario del gigante sudamericano indicó meridianamente: “América del Sur necesita trabajar en bloque. No se puede imaginar que, solo, un país va a resolver sus graves problemas que duran más de 500 años”.
En otro momento añadió: “Si estamos juntos, tenemos 450 millones de habitantes, tenemos un PIB de casi US$ 4,5 mil millones. Tenemos fuerza en el proceso de negociación y por eso este momento [la cumbre] es importante”.
REUNIÓN DE PRESIDENTES DE LOS PAÍSES DE AMÉRICA DEL SUR
A partir de este martes 30 de mayo, los jefes de Estado de los países sudamericanos se reunirán en Brasilia, en el Palacio de Itamaraty. Confirmaron presencia los presidentes de Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Surinam, Uruguay y Venezuela. Una reunión de esta magnitud no se celebraba desde hace al menos siete años.
NICOLÁS MADURO
Llegó acompañado por su esposa Cilia Flores, Maduro aterrizó en Brasilia la noche del domingo (28) para participar en la asamblea de presidentes sudamericanos del martes (30). En sus redes sociales, el presidente venezolano agradeció “la calurosa acogida” y citó el desarrollo de una agenda diplomática que refuerce “la unión de los pueblos del continente.”
ENCUENTRO ENTRE LULA Y MADURO
El encuentro entre Lula y Maduro marca la reanudación de los lazos entre Brasil y Venezuela. Se espera que ambos continúen “normalizando las relaciones bilaterales”. En la agenda está la reapertura de las embajadas y sectores consulares.

The president of the South American giant clearly indicated: “South America needs to work as a block. It cannot be imagined that one country alone is going to solve its serious problems that have lasted for more than 500 years.”
At another point, he added: “If we are together, we have 450 million inhabitants, we have a GDP of almost US$4.5 billion. We have strength in the negotiation process and that is why this moment [the summit] is important.”
MEETING OF PRESIDENTS OF SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRIES
Starting this Tuesday, May 30, the heads of state of the South American countries will meet in Brasilia, at the Itamaraty Palace. The presidents of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela confirmed their presence. A meeting of this magnitude has not been held for at least seven years.
