Sostuvo que para cerrar estas brechas se requiere del aporte del sector privado y el apoyo de la cooperación internacional para impulsar inversiones en agua y saneamiento e iniciativas de conservación de las fuentes del recurso hídrico.

“Nuestro único objetivo es cerrar la brecha en agua potable y saneamiento de manera sostenible. Somos conscientes que jamás podremos cerrar esa brecha, si no cuidamos nuestras fuentes de agua de manera sostenida y permanente”, expresó la ministra Pérez de Cuéllar.

La titular de Vivienda participó esta mañana en la ceremonia del inicio de la segunda fase del Proyecto de Infraestructura Natural para la Seguridad Hídrica, implementado por Forest Trends, con el financiamiento del Gobierno de Canadá y la Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID).

La iniciativa prevé la inversión de US $52 millones, aproximadamente en 10 años, en proyectos de infraestructura natural para fortalecer la seguridad hídrica en el país, así como en el refuerzo de las capacidades de las instituciones peruanas involucradas.

PARTICULARIDADES DEL PROYECTO
El Proyecto de Infraestructura Natural para la Seguridad Hídrica (INSH), junto al MVCS han desarrollado la Herramienta de Identificación Rápida de Oportunidades para la Infraestructura Natural (HIRO), que permite tener un registro de las áreas y ecosistemas que necesitan ser conservadas y recuperadas en las cuencas.

Esta herramienta es esencial para promover la ejecución de inversiones de recuperación y conservación de infraestructura natural como bofedales, bosques, cochas y amunas, que permiten la sostenibilidad de nuestros recursos hídricos, en articulación con las comunidades de las cuencas vulnerables y que están expuestas al cambio climático y eventos naturales.

La ministra Pérez de Cuéllar agradeció a los gobiernos de Canadá y Estados Unidos por promover y financiar proyectos de esta naturaleza y resaltó que son socios estratégicos del Perú.

Destacó que recientemente el Ejecutivo modificó el decreto legislativo 1280 y aprobó el decreto legislativo 1620, la ley de servicio universal de agua potable y saneamiento, a través del cual, por primera vez el gobierno peruano reconoce a las fuentes de agua como parte de la cadena productiva de agua potable y saneamiento.

“Invertir en infraestructura natural es invertir en el futuro y en el bienestar de las familias peruanas, sobre todo de aquellas que están en las zonas altoandinas que son las que más sufren, no solo de la inclemencia climática, sino también por su precaria condición socioeconómica.
