“El Perú ratifica la importancia de promover que América Latina y el Caribe siga siendo una zona de paz, no sólo libre de armas nucleares, químicas y biológicas, sino también libre de minas antipersonal y municiones en racimo, cuyo uso no es solo ilegal, es profundamente inmoral”, expresó el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores.

En la actividad desarrollada en el Palacio de Torre Tagle, el canciller González-Olaechea explicó que, como Estado Parte de la Convención de Oslo, el Perú asumió el compromiso de destruir este tipo de armas hasta abril de 2024 y desplegó sus mayores esfuerzos para cumplir con la destrucción de una limitada cantidad de municiones que se tenía almacenada, aunque nunca usada por nuestro país.

“Gracias a la significativa cooperación del Reino de Noruega a través de la Organización Ayuda Popular de Noruega (Norwegian People Aid’s -NPA), así como de la República Federal de Alemania, y contando con la valiosa participación de los efectivos de nuestra Fuerza Aérea del Perú, se pudo cumplir cabalmente con esta obligación antes de tiempo, en diciembre pasado”, remarcó el ministro.

En la ceremonia el canciller destacó que el cumplimiento de esta obligación internacional marca un importante hito histórico a nivel mundial, ya que, “con la destrucción de las municiones de racimo en el Perú, todos los países que son Estados Parte de la Convención de Oslo podemos decir que hemos cumplido con destruir sus arsenales de estas armas”.

También el ministro González-Olaechea enfatizó que la destrucción de las municiones en racimo es un destacado ejemplo de los esfuerzos que realiza el Perú constantemente para el cumplimiento de sus obligaciones internacionales y resaltó el compromiso de nuestro país con la seguridad a nivel nacional e internacional, como ha sido plasmada en distintos ejes de la Política Exterior Reforzada (PER) presentada ante el Congreso.

“El Perú es un país firmemente comprometido con la paz y la seguridad internacionales. Para ello, apoya y contribuye con los esfuerzos globales a favor del desarme, la no proliferación, el control de armas, los agentes biológicos y las sustancias químicas, así como la promoción del uso pacífico de la energía nuclear en momentos críticos, de retos constantes y desafiantes en el orden global e internacional”, puntualizó el canciller.

Es importante destacar que el Perú es Estado Parte desde 2013 de la Convención sobre Municiones en Racimo, conocida como la Convención de Oslo, junto a los 124 Estados que hasta la fecha la han suscrito. En virtud de la misma, el Perú se comprometió a nunca y en ninguna circunstancia emplear, producir, transferir o almacenar municiones en racimo.

Minister González-Olaechea also emphasized that the destruction of cluster munitions is an outstanding example of the efforts that Peru constantly makes to comply with its international obligations and highlighted our country’s commitment to security at the national and international level. as has been reflected in different axes of the Reinforced Foreign Policy (PER) presented to Congress.

“Peru is a country firmly committed to international peace and security. To this end, it supports and contributes to global efforts in favor of disarmament, non-proliferation, arms control, biological agents and chemical substances, as well as the promotion of the peaceful use of nuclear energy in critical moments of constant challenges. and challenging in the global and international order,” said the chancellor.

It is important to highlight that Peru has been a State Party since 2013 to the Convention on Cluster Munitions, known as the Oslo Convention, along with the 124 States that have signed it to date.
