Unión al puerto de Miami y señaló que esta embarcación “constituye un ejemplo de unidad nacional”.

En la ceremonia el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores destacó que la embarcación, catalogada como el buque escuela más grande del continente americano, ha recorrido Tahití, Guam, Tokio, Busán, Singapur, Shangay, Bombay y Mumbai. Atravesando el Mar Rojo y el Canal de Suez prosiguió a Taranto, Civitavecchia, La Spezzia, El Pireo, Toulin, Málaga y Baltimore.

“Ahora la tenemos con nosotros. Rumbo al emblemático puerto del Callao, se detendrá en Kingston, Curazao, atravesará el Canal de Panamá parando en Balboa y después de haber navegado más de 300 días, regresará a casa habiendo deslumbrado a más de 70,000 visitantes con sus 34 hermosas velas”, resaltó el canciller.

Asimismo, el ministro González-Olaechea afirmó que cada puerto ha sido una privilegiada oportunidad para dar más a conocer al mundo acerca de nuestras bondades y oportunidades, así como una ocasión para fortalecer los lazos navales, culturales, diplomáticos y comerciales en las naciones visitadas.

“Así, el viaje de instrucción de nuestro buque escuela es mucho más que una travesía marítima, es un testimonio de nuestro compromiso con la promoción de la paz, la cooperación y el entendimiento mutuo”, enfatizó.

En su discurso el canciller también se refirió al proceso histórico de construcción del B.A.P. Unión y señaló que “la expectativa y ánimo que generó la armadura de esta nave es un testimonio vital de lo que Jorge Basadre llamó la Promesa de la Vida Peruana” porque en sus cuatro mástiles encontramos el espíritu de nuestro mayor héroe naval: Miguel Grau.

Finalmente, el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores expresó su reconocimiento al jefe del Estado Mayor de la Marina; el vicealmirante Ernesto Colunge Pinto; el comandante del BAP Unión, Capitán de Navío, José Arce Corso y a todos y a cada uno de los tripulantes.
