Esta colaboración tiene como objetivo mejorar la salud y el desarrollo infantil en el Perú, con un enfoque especial en las regiones de Huancavelica, Loreto, Ucayali y Lima.

La donación se destinará a dos proyectos fundamentales. El primero se centrará en la detección temprana de problemas de visión y audición en recién nacidos de las mencionadas regiones, beneficiando a más de 8,000 niños y bebés. Este proyecto incluye el equipamiento de centros de salud, la capacitación del personal y la implementación de protocolos para fortalecer el sistema de salud en la detección de estas alteraciones.

El segundo proyecto se enfocará en mejorar el acceso a servicios de agua e higiene en 20 escuelas ubicadas en las mismas regiones, beneficiando a más de 20,000 estudiantes. Esta iniciativa no solo contribuirá a mejorar las condiciones de vida y salud de las comunidades más vulnerables del país, sino que también garantizará que más de 4,000 adolescentes puedan gestionar su higiene menstrual de manera óptima, segura y digna.

Esta alianza entre La Iglesia de Jesucristo y UNICEF surge en respuesta a la necesidad de fortalecer los sistemas de detección temprana de problemas de desarrollo en audición y visión, así como mejorar el acceso a agua potable e instalaciones sanitarias en regiones donde menos del 14% de la población cuenta con estos servicios. Estas carencias representan riesgos para la salud y el desarrollo de los niños, y ambas organizaciones buscan mitigar estos desafíos.

UNICEF tiene presencia en más de 190 países y territorios, incluido el Perú, donde desde 1948 ha trabajado para mejorar la identificación y detección temprana de riesgos de desarrollo o discapacidad en niños menores de tres años, además de apoyar la reapertura de escuelas y fortalecer el acceso a servicios de agua y saneamiento básico para estudiantes.
