C.
El embajador del Perú en los Estados Unidos, Alfredo Ferrero; el representante permanente del Perú ante la OEA, José Luis Sardón; y el secretario general de la OEA, Luis Almagro, presidieron la ceremonia de develación de la escultura de Vallejo, uno de los poetas y figuras literarias más importantes del Perú e Hispanoamérica.
El evento que concreta la donación de esta obra de arte del Perú a la OEA contó con la presencia de distinguidos invitados como jefes de Misiones extranjeras y el PhD. Joseph Mulligan, académico especializado en la obra de César Vallejo.
La instalación de la estatua de Vallejo, sentado en una banca de madera, representa un significativo hito en la promoción de la cultura y la literatura peruana en el escenario internacional. Se trata de la primera escultura de una personalidad del Perú en Washington D.C.
Este esfuerzo reafirmó el compromiso del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores del Perú, a través de la Embajada del Perú y su Misión Permanente ante la OEA, de fomentar la apreciación y la difusión del patrimonio literario peruano a nivel mundial.
La escultura en bronce reconstituido, creada por el artista peruano David Flores, sirve de símbolo de los fuertes lazos culturales entre el Perú y Estados Unidos, en el marco de la preconmemoración de los 200 años de relaciones diplomáticas entre ambos países, que se cumplen en 2026, y del fomento de un sentido de entendimiento internacional entre los pueblos de América.
Asimismo, se instaló una caseta con una selección de las obras más importantes de César Vallejo, disponible para que los visitantes a la OEA puedan leer y explorar su legado literario. Esta iniciativa busca acercar la poesía y la narrativa de Vallejo al público internacional, promoviendo su contribución a la literatura universal.
Figura peruana
Nacido en Santiago de Chuco, Perú, en 1892, César Vallejo es uno de los autores más influyentes en la escritura contemporánea, destacando los temas universales de la lucha y la resistencia.
Entre sus trabajos más destacados se encuentran “Los Heraldos Negros” (1919), una obra que refleja el dolor y la angustia existencial; “Trilce” (1922), un poemario revolucionario que desafía las estructuras poéticas tradicionales; y su obra póstuma “Poemas Humanos” (1939), que profundiza en temas de la solidaridad humana y la justicia social.

The ambassador of Peru to the United States, Alfredo Ferrero; the permanent representative of Peru to the OAS, José Luis Sardón; and the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, presided over the unveiling ceremony of the sculpture of Vallejo, one of the most important poets and literary figures in Peru and Latin America.
The event that concretized the donation of this work of art from Peru to the OAS was attended by distinguished guests such as heads of foreign Missions and the PhD. Joseph Mulligan, academic specialized in the work of César Vallejo.
The installation of the statue of Vallejo, seated on a wooden bench, represents a significant milestone in the promotion of Peruvian culture and literature on the international stage. It is the first sculpture of a Peruvian personality in Washington D.C.
This effort reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, through the Embassy of Peru and its Permanent Mission to the OAS, to promote the appreciation and dissemination of Peruvian literary heritage worldwide.
