“La colaboración con organismos internacionales como el BID es fundamental para modernizar nuestro sistema penitenciario y fortalecer la lucha contra la criminalidad”, afirmó el ministro, durante la inauguración de la Mesa Técnica de la Red de Gestores Penitenciarios desarrollada hoy en Lima, y que reúne a expertos internacionales de España, Chile, Colombia y Argentina.
El ministro Arana subrayó la importancia de invertir en infraestructura carcelaria sostenible y eficiente y destacó el trabajo conjunto con BID con quien tiene previsto la ejecución de tres proyectos claves para fortalecer el sistema penitenciario en el país, entre ellas la construcción de un tercer centro penitenciario en Ancón, con infraestructura moderna y altos estándares de derechos humanos.
Otra de las iniciativas, planteadas desde el BID, durante la inauguración de la Mesa Técnica, es el fortalecimiento del Centro Nacional de Estudios Criminológicos y Penitenciarios, con el objetivo de convertirlo en la mejor escuela del país y de la región, incorporando experiencias internacionales en la formación de especialistas en seguridad y rehabilitación.
Asimismo, se presentó la iniciativa Alianza por la Seguridad, la Justicia y el Desarrollo, que busca establecer un foro internacional de discusión para mejorar la seguridad y la justicia con un enfoque transnacional.
El titular de Justicia, Eduardo Arana, destacó que las propuestas que se enmarcan en los esfuerzos por reducir el hacinamiento carcelario y mejorar la reinserción social de los internos, reflejan la credibilidad de nuestro país ante organismos internacionales y permite consolidar iniciativas en infraestructura penitenciaria, capacitación del personal y programas de reinserción social.

Minister Arana emphasized the importance of investing in sustainable and efficient prison infrastructure and highlighted the joint work with the IDB, with which he plans to execute three key projects to strengthen the country’s prison system. Another initiative proposed by the IDB during the inauguration of the Technical Roundtable is the strengthening of the National Center for Criminological and Penitentiary Studies, with the goal of making it the best school in the country and the region, incorporating international experiences in the training of security and rehabilitation specialists.
Likewise, the Alliance for Security, Justice, and Development initiative was presented, which seeks to establish an international discussion forum to improve security and justice with a transnational focus.
