La distinción oficial se establece mediante la Resolución Ministerial N.º 447-2026-RE, como reconocimiento al valor, profesionalismo y entrega demostrados durante las labores de atención a los dos terremotos que afectaron a Venezuela el mes pasado.

La ceremonia contó con la presencia del ministro del Interior José Zapata, autoridades del CGBVP —vicecomandante José Medina Arzola y brigadier mayor Claudio Saénz—, integrantes del equipo y su componente más emblemático: Kaira, perrita de raza Pastor Belga Malinois, fundamental en las tareas de localización de víctimas.

El canciller resaltó que durante más de siete días el equipo trabajó en condiciones extremas, bajo estructuras colapsadas, riesgo permanente y con recursos adaptados al terreno. Destacó especialmente el rescate de una mujer de 60 años, que permaneció atrapada casi tres días bajo escombros y fue localizada y extraída con vida gracias al trabajo coordinado de los efectivos y Kaira.

La autoridad diplomática subrayó que este gesto reafirma la solidaridad entre naciones hermanas: pocos días después del sismo del 18 de julio en Junín, el gobierno venezolano manifestó su solidaridad y ofrecimiento de apoyo al Perú. Por su parte, el ministro del Interior señaló que la acción confirma que el pueblo peruano tiende la mano cuando más se le necesita. Se recuerda que el Grupo USAR-Perú ya había recibido la medalla “Héroe de Venezuela” de manos de la presidenta interina Delcy Rodríguez por su labor en la zona de La Guaira.

The official distinction is established through Ministerial Resolution No. 447-2026-RE, in recognition of the courage, professionalism and dedication demonstrated during response operations to the two earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of the Interior José Zapata, CGBVP authorities —Deputy Commander José Medina Arzola and Senior Brigadier Claudio Saénz—, members of the team and its most emblematic member: Kaira, a Belgian Malinois dog, essential in locating victims.

The Foreign Minister highlighted that for more than seven days the team worked in extreme conditions, under collapsed structures, permanent risk and with resources adapted to the terrain. He gave special mention to the rescue of a 60-year-old woman who remained trapped for almost three days under rubble and was located and extracted alive thanks to the coordinated work of the team and Kaira.

The diplomatic authority underlined that this gesture reaffirms solidarity between sister nations: just days after the July 18 earthquake in Junín, the Venezuelan government expressed its solidarity and offer of support to Peru. For his part, the Minister of the Interior stated that this action confirms that the Peruvian people extend a helping hand when it is most needed. It should be recalled that USAR-Peru had already received the “Hero of Venezuela” medal from Interim President Delcy Rodríguez for its work in the La Guaira area.
