Durante la reunión en el MEF, los líderes del BM y del BID expresaron su voluntad de continuar propiciando la prosperidad compartida y la reducción de la pobreza en el Perú, brindando financiamiento, asesoría sobre políticas y asistencia técnica al sector público, además de implementar acciones para fortalecer al sector privado. Ambos organismos también afirmaron que seguirán contribuyendo con cerrar las brechas económicas y sociales entre zonas urbanas y rurales; y apoyarán el incremento de la productividad de la economía peruana en base al crecimiento inclusivo y sostenible.

En tanto, el ministro Contreras sostuvo que la visita de los presidentes de ambos organismos internacionales al Perú representa un reconocimiento a los esfuerzos del Poder Ejecutivo para mejorar la percepción del país ante los inversionistas internacionales. “El apoyo del BM y del BID en las áreas en las que colabora con el Perú, serán fundamentales en la ruta de la reactivación de la economía nacional”, señaló.

Esta es la primera visita que Banga y Goldfajn realizan al Perú desde que asumieron sus respectivos cargos en el BM y en BID, y es parte de una gira internacional que los llevará a distintos países de los cinco continentes.

Al 31 de mayo del presente año, el BM, a través del Banco Internacional de Reconstrucción y Fomento (BIRF) mantuvo una cartera de operaciones contratadas en el Perú por US$ 1 663,72 millones, principalmente enfocados en financiar proyectos de inversión en los sectores agricultura, ambiente, justicia, producción, salud, saneamiento y transporte, entre otros. En tanto, el BID poseía una cartera de operaciones en el Perú por US$ 2 664,1 millones, concentrados principalmente en el financiamiento de proyectos de inversión en los sectores transporte, saneamiento, salud, justicia y agricultura.

Posteriormente a la visita al MEF, los representantes del BM y del BID sostuvieron una reunión protocolar con la presidenta de la República, Dina Boluarte, el premier y algunos ministros de Estado, en las instalaciones de Palacio de Gobierno.

El presidente del BM, Ajay Banga, es de origen indio-estadounidense y fue nombrado en dicho cargo el pasado 2 de junio, por un mandato de cinco años. Al frente de esta organización, anunció acciones enfocadas en repensar las alianzas estratégicas con otros bancos multilaterales y organizaciones de desarrollo, e identificar las barreras para la inversión del sector privado. Banga ocupó recientemente el cargo de vicepresidente de General Atlantic, y se desempeñó como presidente y Director Ejecutivo de Mastercard, una organización internacional de casi 24 mil empleados.

Por su parte, Ilan Goldfajn es origen israelí-brasileño y fue electo presidente del BID en noviembre del 2022 y se desempeñó como jefe del Departamento del Hemisferio Occidental del Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) desde donde ayudó a los países a implementar programas respaldados por el FMI para abordar una serie de desafíos sin precedentes. También contribuyó al diálogo de políticas de la región sobre el cambio climático con el FMI y supervisó la primera Facilidad de Resiliencia y Sostenibilidad de la institución. Anteriormente, trabajó como economista en el FMI, de 1996 a 1999.

SOBRE EL GRUPO BANCO MUNDIAL (BM)
El Grupo Banco Mundial está conformado por el Banco Internacional de Reconstrucción y Fomento (BIRF), la Asociación Internacional de Fomento (AIF), la Corporación Financiera Internacional (IFC), el Organismo Multilateral de Garantía de Inversiones (MIGA), y el Centro Internacional de Arreglo de Diferencias Relativas a Inversiones (CIADI).

SOBRE EL GRUPO INTERAMERICANO DE DESARROLLO (BID)
El BID es el banco regional de desarrollo más grande a nivel mundial y es modelo para otras instituciones similares a nivel regional y subregional. El Grupo BID está conformado por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, el BID Invest y el BID Lab. El organismo es la principal fuente de financiamiento para el desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe, y su objetivo es brindar ayuda para mejorar el nivel de bienestar de los países al brindar soluciones financieras y conocimientos sobre el desarrollo tanto del sector público como del privado.

Meanwhile, Minister Contreras said that the visit of the presidents of both international organizations to Peru represents a recognition of the efforts of the Executive Power to improve the perception of the country before international investors. “The support of the WB and the IDB in the areas in which they collaborate with Peru will be fundamental in the path of the reactivation of the national economy,” he said.

This is the first visit that Banga and Goldfajn have made to Peru since they took up their respective posts at the World Bank and the IDB, and it is part of an international tour that will take them to different countries on five continents.

As of May 31 of this year, the WB, through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BIRF), maintained a portfolio of operations contracted in Peru for US$ 1,663.72 million, mainly focused on financing investment projects in the agriculture, environment, justice, production, health, sanitation and transportation sectors, among others. After the visit to the MEF, the representatives of the World Bank and the IDB held a formal meeting with the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, the Prime Minister and some State Ministers, at the Government Palace facilities.

The president of the WB, Ajay Banga, is of Indian-American origin and was appointed to that position on June 2, for a five-year term. At the head of this organization, he announced actions focused on rethinking strategic alliances with other multilateral banks and development organizations, and identifying barriers to private sector investment. Banga most recently served as Vice President of General Atlantic, and served as President and CEO of Mastercard, an international organization of nearly 24,000 employees.

For his part, Ilan Goldfajn is of Israeli-Brazilian origin and was elected president of the IDB in November 2022 and served as head of the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from where he helped countries implement programs supported by the IMF to address a series of unprecedented challenges. He also contributed to the region’s policy dialogue on climate change with the IMF and oversaw the institution’s first Sustainability and Resilience Facility. Previously, he worked as an economist at the IMF, from 1996 to 1999.
