Con este traspaso de mando, los uruguayos concretaron 40 años de ejercicio democrático ininterrumpido. Se trata del noveno gobierno que asume desde 1985.

Orsi llegó a la plaza Independencia junto con la vicepresidenta de la República, Carolina Cosse, sobre las 16:50 horas. Los jerarcas fueron recibidos por el mandatario saliente, Luis Lacalle Pou, y la exvicepresidenta, Beatriz Argimón. En la ocasión, y ante la presencia de miles de uruguayos, el profesor Orsi recibió la banda presidencial y firmó el acta de traspaso, documento que formaliza la investidura.

Se trata del noveno presidente tras la restauración democrática en el año 1985. Lo antecedieron Julio María Sanguinetti (1985-1990), Luis Lacalle Herrera (1990-1995), Julio María Sanguinetti (1995-2000), Jorge Batlle (2000-2005), Tabaré Vázquez (2005-2010), José Mujica (2010-2015), Tabaré Vázquez (2015-2020) y Luis Lacalle Pou (2020-2025).

A primeras horas de la tarde, Orsi había declarado su compromiso de honor constitucional ante la Asamblea General, como lo estipula el artículo 158.° de la Constitución de la República.

Después de recibir la banda presidencial, Orsi brindó un discurso dirigido a los uruguayos. El mandatario destacó nuevamente la celebración del 40.° aniversario de ejercicio de la democracia de manera ininterrumpida. También recordó que en este período se conmemorarán los 200 años del nacimiento de Uruguay como país. Esta nación es el fruto de enfrentamientos, negociaciones y controversias regionales que hacían que este territorio estuviera en permanente disputa, mencionó.

“Los uruguayos nos merecemos, en este período de cinco años, que podamos celebrarnos como Estado”, consideró. Por esta razón, se realizará una convocatoria a actores de la política y la academia, para valorizar el proceso y repensarnos en un mundo impredecible y una región que necesita al país, más allá de sus dimensiones, añadió.

Orsi señaló, asimismo, que se siente orgulloso de pertenecer a Uruguay y extendió un saludo y un agradecimiento a los ciudadanos de todo el territorio. “El país es uno solo, lo construimos entre todos, de manera equilibrada, generando que cada rincón se sienta protagonista del desarrollo”, expresó. Agregó que nos espera un futuro con desafíos, pero, sin duda, muy venturoso. “A celebrar la democracia”, alentó.

For this reason, a call will be made to actors from politics and academia, to value the process and rethink ourselves in an unpredictable world and a region that needs the country, beyond its dimensions, he added.

Orsi also pointed out that he feels proud to belong to Uruguay and extended greetings and thanks to the citizens of the entire territory. “The country is one, we build it together, in a balanced way, making every corner feel like a protagonist in development,” he expressed. He added that a future with challenges awaits us, but, without a doubt, very fortunate. “To celebrate democracy,” he encouraged.
