Subrayó que su elección, como primer representante del Caribe en asumir este cargo, refleja la confianza de los países miembros en su capacidad para atender las diversas necesidades del hemisferio.

También agradeció la labor desempeñada por el secretario general saliente, Luis Almagro, y reconoció la participación del canciller de Paraguay, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano en el proceso de elección.

El ministro Schialer anunció que el Perú propondrá acciones concretas para detener las actividades terroristas del grupo criminal “Tren de Aragua” y otras organizaciones similares. Destacó que estas estructuras delictivas amenazan la gobernabilidad democrática y el Estado de Derecho, lo que exige una respuesta firme y coordinada entre los Estados.

Schialer enfatizó la importancia de fortalecer la cooperación internacional, mejorar la coordinación entre países y compartir información estratégica para enfrentar eficazmente esta amenaza. Recordó que el Perú ha sufrido en el pasado la violencia terrorista y que la región debe adoptar estrategias integrales y multidisciplinarias para evitar su expansión.

Asimismo, reafirmó el compromiso del Perú con la recuperación democrática en Venezuela, condenando el fraude electoral de 2024 y exigiendo la restitución del orden democrático, el respeto a los derechos humanos y la liberación de todos los presos políticos, incluidos ciudadanos peruanos. Aseguró que el Perú ha apoyado y seguirá apoyando todas las iniciativas para la recuperación de la democracia en ese país.

REUNIÓN CON JAMAICA PARA FORTALECER LAZOS BILATERALES
En el marco de su visita, el canciller Schialer sostuvo una reunión bilateral con la ministra de Asuntos Exteriores y Comercio Exterior de Jamaica, Kamina Johnson-Smith, en la que discutieron la reapertura de la Embajada del Perú en ese país y la firma de acuerdos que fortalezcan la relación bilateral. Abordaron temas de cooperación en seguridad y defensa, avances en un acuerdo de servicios aéreos y el fortalecimiento del vínculo con CARICOM.

He stressed that his election, as the first representative of the Caribbean to assume this position, reflects the confidence of the member countries in his ability to meet the diverse needs of the hemisphere.

He also thanked the outgoing Secretary General, Luis Almagro, for his work and acknowledged the participation of Paraguay’s Foreign Minister, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, in the election process.

Minister Schialer announced that Peru will propose concrete actions to stop the terrorist activities of the criminal group “Tren de Aragua” and other similar organizations. He stressed that these criminal structures threaten democratic governance and the rule of law, which requires a firm and coordinated response between States.

Schialer stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation, improving coordination between countries and sharing strategic information to effectively confront this threat. He recalled that Peru has suffered terrorist violence in the past and that the region must adopt comprehensive and multidisciplinary strategies to prevent its expansion.

He also reaffirmed Peru’s commitment to democratic recovery in Venezuela, condemning the electoral fraud of 2024 and demanding the restoration of democratic order, respect for human rights and the release of all political prisoners, including Peruvian citizens. He assured that Peru has supported and will continue to support all initiatives for the recovery of democracy in that country.

MEETING WITH JAMAICA TO STRENGTHEN BILATERAL TIES
In the framework of his visit, Foreign Minister Schialer held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Kamina Johnson-Smith, in which they discussed the reopening of the Peruvian Embassy in that country and the signing of agreements that strengthen the bilateral relationship. They addressed issues of cooperation in security and defense, progress in an air services agreement and the strengthening of the link with CARICOM.
