Fue sumamente amable, cálido y acogedor. ¡Qué hombre tan dulce y maravilloso es, y qué afortunado es el pueblo católico de tener un líder tan amable, atento, cariñoso y capaz!”, fueron sus declaraciones del profeta Russell M. Nelson.

El papa Francisco, de 88 años, falleció el lunes de Pascua, 21 de abril de 2025. Originario de Argentina, fue el primer pontífice latinoamericano y dirigió la Iglesia católica durante 12 años. Aquejado de una enfermedad pulmonar crónica durante toda su vida, el papa Francisco fue hospitalizado a finales de febrero por una crisis respiratoria que derivó en una neumonía doble, pero había realizado varias apariciones públicas en el Vaticano durante la Semana Santa de ese año.
