La ceremonia de entrega se llevó a cabo el viernes 25 de abril a las 11:00 a. m. en el local institucional del INEN, ubicado en la avenida Angamos Este 2520, en el distrito de Surquillo. Esta importante donación permitirá brindar soporte oportuno a niños diagnosticados con cáncer, así como a otros pacientes oncológicos que requieren atención intensiva inmediata.

Las camas hospitalarias permitirán ampliar la capacidad en áreas críticas, beneficiando especialmente a pacientes con neoplasias malignas sólidas y hematológicas provenientes de diversas regiones del país. Su instalación se realizará en las unidades de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) pediátrica y quirúrgica del INEN.

La entrega estuvo a cargo de Alfredo Altamirano, representante de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, quien realizó la entrega formal al Dr. Francisco Berrospi Espinoza, jefe institucional del INEN.

El personal del INEN participó activamente en la instalación de las camas, así como en las capacitaciones técnicas que brindó el proveedor, quien además garantiza el funcionamiento de los equipos por un periodo de tres años. La institución cuenta con el espacio físico y la capacidad técnica necesaria para un uso eficiente y seguro de estos equipos.

Cabe señalar que los pacientes con neoplasias oncohematológicas enfrentan una alta tasa de mortalidad, muchas veces agravada por el ingreso tardío a unidades de cuidados intensivos debido a la limitada disponibilidad de camas. Estudios internacionales demuestran que el ingreso precoz a UCI reduce significativamente la mortalidad. Esta donación permitirá habilitar una nueva unidad de cuidados intensivos en el quinto piso del hospital, marcando un antes y un después en la atención oncológica pediátrica.

Finalmente, es importante destacar que el voluntariado de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días ha venido desarrollando diversas actividades solidarias a favor del INEN, como campañas de donación de sangre y jornadas de servicio en beneficio de los niños atendidos en el centro especializado.

The delivery ceremony took place on Friday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m. at the INEN’s institutional premises, located at 2520 Angamos Este Avenue, in the Surquillo district. This important donation will provide timely support to children diagnosed with cancer, as well as to other oncology patients who require immediate intensive care.

The hospital beds will expand capacity in critical areas, particularly benefiting patients with solid and hematological malignancies from various regions of the country. They will be installed in the pediatric and surgical intensive care units (ICUs) at the INEN (National Institute of Endocrinology).

The delivery was led by Alfredo Altamirano, representative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who formally handed them over to Dr. Francisco Berrospi Espinoza, head of the INEN (National Institute of Endocrinology).

INEN staff actively participated in the installation of the beds, as well as in the technical training provided by the supplier, who also guarantees the equipment’s operation for a period of three years. The institution has the physical space and technical capacity necessary for the efficient and safe use of this equipment.

It should be noted that patients with oncohematological neoplasms face a high mortality rate, often aggravated by late admission to intensive care units due to limited bed availability. International studies show that early admission to the ICU significantly reduces mortality. This donation will allow the installation of a new intensive care unit on the fifth floor of the hospital, marking a turning point in pediatric oncology care.

Finally, it is important to highlight that volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been carrying out various charitable activities for INEN, such as blood donation drives and service days to benefit the children treated at the specialized center.
