La insania terrorista con la que se perpetraron los 13 asesinatos que han puesto a prueba la templanza de todos los peruanos, no quedará impune. El largo brazo de la ley alcanzará más temprano que tarde a todos los autores de la matanza, y estos pagarán sus culpas tras las rejas. Aunque, a decir verdad, la cadena perpetua resultaría insuficiente para tanta inhumanidad.

Desde el Ejecutivo reconocemos que el cóctel mortal configurado por la inseguridad ciudadana y la criminalidad vinculada a la minería ilegal se han convertido en un tumor canceroso que debemos extirpar lo más pronto posible para evitar que el Perú se convierte en un Estado fallido. Como país ya lo hicimos en los años 90. Podemos hacerlo ahora también. Unidos.

Hoy, el enemigo no lleva pañoletas de dos colores en la mitad de la cara, tampoco actúa hipnotizado por un pensamiento con nombre. Los enemigos actuales se camuflan en la calle o se adentran en socavones que carecen de legalidad. Extorsionan o dan rienda suelta a una aurífera y enfermiza ambición. Sin embargo, tienen en común el desprecio por la vida. Para ellos, matar es deporte. Gatillan con una repulsiva crueldad.

Como Gobierno, no hemos sido infalibles, pero no se puede negar que hemos trabajado intensamente para contrarrestar la ola criminal, y seguimos haciéndolo. Es verdad que aún no hemos conseguido eliminar este cáncer, pero también es cierto que, en esta hora difícil, Pataz y el país entero nos necesitan unidos: Ejecutivo, Legislativo, Poder Judicial, Ministerio Público, gobiernos regionales, gobiernos locales y ciudadanía en general. Articulados y complementándonos, cada uno dentro de sus competencias, debemos empujar hacia el mismo lado y no en direcciones contrarias.

Lo sucedido en Pataz no solo nos conmueve, entristece y causa rabia, sino también nos obliga a todos a replantear criterios. Debería ser un punto de inflexión. No nos distraigamos en acosos políticos o persecuciones judiciales con tufillo desestabilizador. Al contrario, conceptos como estabilidad institucional y mantenimiento del Estado de derecho deben ser faros comunes.

Con sentido de unidad, confiamos en que el Congreso de la República se sumará a los esfuerzos desplegados para devolverle la tranquilidad al país aprobando la propuesta del Ejecutivo que tipifica el delito de terrorismo urbano, porque es eso lo que el Perú está sufriendo: terrorismo; y aprobando la ley MAPE, lo cual permitirá dejar en el olvido al Reinfo, puerta abierta para la minería ilegal que tantas vidas de peruanos ya ha cobrado.

Nada debe ser igual después de Pataz.

Today’s enemies camouflage themselves in the streets or delve into illegal mines. They extort or unleash a sick, gold-bearing ambition. However, they have in common a contempt for life. For them, killing is sport. They pull the trigger with repulsive cruelty.

As a government, we haven’t been infallible, but it cannot be denied that we have worked intensely to counter the wave of crime, and we continue to do so. It is true that we have not yet managed to eliminate this cancer, but it is also true that, in this difficult time, Pataz and the entire country need us united: the Executive, the Legislative, the Judicial Branch, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, regional governments, local governments, and the general public. Articulated and complementing each other, each within their respective responsibilities, we must pull in the same direction and not in opposite directions

What happened in Pataz not only moves us, saddens us, and angers us, but also forces us all to rethink our criteria. It should be a turning point. Let us not be distracted by political harassment or judicial persecution with a destabilizing stench. On the contrary, concepts such as institutional stability and maintaining the rule of law should be common beacons.

With a sense of unity, we trust that the Congress of the Republic will join the efforts deployed to restore tranquility to the country by approving the Executive’s proposal that criminalizes urban terrorism, because that is what Peru is suffering: terrorism; and by approving the ASM law, which will allow Reinfo to be forgotten, an open door to illegal mining that has already claimed so many Peruvian lives.

Nothing should be the same after Pataz.
